The Beach Boys – I Know There's An Answer Lyrics | 7 years ago |
What does this song mean? I know there's an answer...maybe. Great song! The Beach Boys were way more sophisticated than they lead us to believe. |
Yes – Heart of the Sunrise Lyrics | 7 years ago |
My sister is still married to "the hippy" after 43 years. he is a great man. |
Bloodrock – D.O.A. Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Pretty sure the lyrics are wrong. Should be "we were flying low (not along) and hit something in the air" Flying low is an expression for going fast. I always thought this was about a car crash, not an airplane crash. |
The Moody Blues – In The Beginning Lyrics | 8 years ago |
When my kids were little I sometimes told them: "Of course you are, my bright little star". They had no idea I was quoting this "song". Rene Descartes ("I think, therefore I am") would have liked this poem. "Trippy" describes it well. |
Led Zeppelin – What Is and What Should Never Be Lyrics | 8 years ago |
No lyrics due to publisher block????? Why would they do that? |
The Doobie Brothers – Daughters of the Sea Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Why does a band need two drummers? This song is why (check about 3:50). I get goosebumps. I envision sitting on the beach at night around a big fire with the sound of waves. The daughters of the sea are sirens trying to lure you into the dark waters. This song isn't complete without the next track on the album, "flying cloud". |
Stone Temple Pilots – Atlanta Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Tonight my son was playing this song on the guitar and singing it. At first I thought he was singing the Sound of Music tune with a melancholy twist: "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens" After that the melody changes. I'm an old fogey and I don't know the Stone Temple Pilots so I pulled it up on my son't itunes. I like them. I agree they sound a little like Jim Morrison and the Doors. |
Emerson, Lake & Palmer – From the Beginning Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yes, this song is about mistakes and forgiveness. But it is mostly about great guitar and synthesizer. |
Blood, Sweat & Tears – God Bless the Child (Billie Holiday cover) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I love the bluesy style of this song about being poor. Billy Holiday did this song too but I'll take the BS&T version anyday. |
The Alan Parsons Project – Standing On Higher Ground Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Good song. Maybe the lyrics mean something along the line of that song by 'Ten Year's After' - "I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do - so I'll leave it up to you..." For example: "I have to close my eyes, pretending I'm asleep." Another example: "I see the tears but I don't cry as long as I do no wrong I don't need an alibi" |
The Alan Parsons Project – Time Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Beautiful, melancholic song. The symbolic river of time flows to the sea and appears to be gone forever, but we learned in grade school about evaporation, precipitation and the river's renewal through the water cycle. Maybe the river time isn't gone forever after all. Who knows when we shall meet again after we die? I don't see anything atheistic about this song. |
Ides of March – Vehicle Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Always thought this song was by Blood Sweat and Tears. Great lyrics reminds me of the funny T-shirt that says "I'm the man your mother warned you about". |
Blood, Sweat & Tears – And When I Die (Peter, Paul and Mary cover) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Very funny and insightful lyrics: "I can swear there ain't no Heaven But I pray there ain't no hell." |
Blood, Sweat & Tears – Lucretia Mac Evil Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Wow! The trumpet solo about 4 minutes into this song is amazing. This song rocks big time. Definitely this is my favorite BS&T song - and that is very high praise. However, the transcription of the lyrics is wrong in a few places. I believe the last verse is missing altogether - "ahhhh, here she comes, truckin...". Lucy must be this really hot temptress who broke the heart of the artist who wrote this song. Otherwise he wouldn't be complaining she is so loose and tight with the Devil:-) |
Grand Funk Railroad – Footstompin' Music Lyrics | 15 years ago |
There's not much to say about the lyrics but I will say this about the song - It rocks! I know there are a lot of young music fans out there searching for great oldies. I highly recommend this one. Check it out on youtube or something. I promise you won't be disappointed. Absolutely one of the best. |
Spirit – Nature's Way Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I like how the lead singer (Randy California?) kind of sounds like he's crying. |
Elton John – Blue Eyes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The words "baby's got blue eyes" sound cool to me. I think it's an alliteration, if that is the correct term. Elton's voice really is not bad. |
Chico Buarque de Holanda – Feijoada Completa Lyrics | 15 years ago |
fun song. I'm not from Brazil, but I can envision a big backyard BBQ with lots of food and friends. I like the way Chico matter-of-factly tells his "woman" she is going to like that he has invited a bunch of friends over to eat on the spur of the moment. My wife would kill me (smiling). |
Chico Buarque de Holanda – Construção Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don’t necessarily recommend this song to people looking for good Bossa Nova music. I recommend Joao Gilberto, Caetano Veloso or Gilberto Gil. This song is not the most pleasing to listen to as it becomes disturbing with the traffic noise in the middle. I guess that uneasy feeling is intentional. Apparently this song has some complexity to those who understand Portuguese (I am American with limited Portuguese vocabulary). I read the book “A Simple Brazilian Song’ by James Woodall that had some interesting information on this song: “Construcao has been labeled a protest song. Chico has always denied that he wrote this or any other song with the specific idea of ‘protest’ in mind; but both ‘Apesar de voce’ and ‘Construcao’, written around the same time, clearly contain his poetic assessments of life under the generals — Construcao more obliquely than Apesar." The book goes on to quote this scholarly analysis of the song by Charles Perrone ‘Masters of Contemporary Brazilian Song’: “The text has forty-one lines of twelve syllables, all of which end in proparoxytone, that is, a word stressed on the antepenultimate syllable. A pattern of preterites organizes the text as two series of quatrains and a sextain comprised of verses from each of the four quatrains, with both series and sextain followed by an isolated single-line refrain. The strophes of the two series are differentiated only by the changing of the line-final word. Four new words are introduced in the second series, and the words used in the first now modify a different line. In the sextain, there is another substitution or switch at the end of each line.” If you understand this completely, you are smarter than I. |
The Hollies – Bus Stop Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Great song, but for some reason I never paid attention to the lyrics until now. I kind of like how the lyrics tell a story in an interesting way. I especially like the way the first verse explains the setting with no wasted words (bus stop, wet day, she's there). The first line and third line connect 2-word thoughts and the 3rd and 4th lines repeat "under my umbrella" which is used as the symbol throughout the song to show how the couple stays close together as their love grows. Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say, "Please share my umbrella." Bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows Under my umbrella. Bluejay fusion's comments are too funny. |
The Who – My Wife Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. |
The Who – See Me, Feel Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Of course Acevans is right. I'd never thought about how the opening lyrics might sound to someone who doesn't connect it to tbe rock opera, "Tommy". Great song. |
The Kinks – Sunny Afternoon Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Stay mellow folks. Even when the economy falls and we lose our relative wealth we can still enjoy a sunny afternoon. |
The Kinks – Everybody's Gonna Be Happy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Love it! And I know, and I know... that everybody be happy. I guess he knows so I be happy. |
Todd Rundgren – We Gotta Get You A Woman Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Fun song. I guess I related to this song back because I had friends who helped me find a woman. |
Spirit – Fresh Garbage Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Back in the 60's I really dug this song. I probably hadn't heard it in 4 decades, but Wow! It's as good as I remembered. It was never too popular on AM radio but it still should be a rock classic. Who knows what the lyrics mean? It might be an environmental song or it might be an analogy of some other type of "garbage" we keep under our secret lid. |
Simon and Garfunkel – The Sound of Silence Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is so beautiful but haunting. Around 1968 my sister's friend, about 14 years old at the time, took her own life and left a suicide note requesting "Sounds of Silence" be played at her funeral. Every time I heard this song I remembered my sister's tears. "Hello darkness my old friend I've come to talk with you again" |
The 5th Dimension – Age Of Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In Lyrics | 16 years ago |
If I remember correctly, Dan Brown's "Da Vinci Code" references the "Age of Aquarius" beginning the age of enlightenment around the year 2000. What's your sign babe? |
Stan Getz – The Girl from Ipanema Lyrics | 16 years ago |
A lot of elevator music does end up metal |
Earth, Wind & Fire – September Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Croove55 is right. Oreos. |
Neil Young – I Am A Child Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Like Harry Chapin's "Cat in the Cradle", this song makes one reflect on fatherhood. Interesting to hear from the child's point of view. |
Kansas – Cheyenne Anthem Lyrics | 17 years ago |
My favorite song on the album. Awesome! |
Yes – Heart of the Sunrise Lyrics | 17 years ago |
1973 I skipped my sister's wedding party and listened to the Fragile album cranked up as high as the speakers would go. I believe it was this song that sent chills down my spine and brought tears to my eyes. Obviously powerful since I remember that experience over 30 years later. I'm sure my emotions were close to the surface due to the fact that my sister was leaving our family to go live with that hippy. |
Bachman-Turner Overdrive – Lookin' Out For #1 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think the lyrics are sarcastic. It's hard to imagine that a rock band in that anti-establishment era would promote selfishness and working "for our fortune and fame." The guitars and percussion are beautiful. BTO's best song imo. |
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Find the Cost of Freedom Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Given the politics of CSN&Y this song seems a little too patriotic. Nevertheless, I think this song honors fallen soldiers who paid the greatest price of freedom. |
Chicago – Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Great song on a great album. Sad that Chicago kind of declined (imo) after they got popular. |
Chicago – Beginnings Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Awsome love song! When I kiss you, I deel a thousand different feelings...Only the beginning of what I want to feel forever... Also, I love that percussion thing at the end, but the radio stations always cut it off. |
The Moody Blues – Nights In White Satin Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Groovy |
The Moody Blues – Tuesday Afternoon (Forever Afternoon) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
On a Tuesday afternoon I should be thinking about my daily tasks, but instead I'm looking out the window, daydreaming about the trees... Something calls to me, The trees are drawing me near, I've got to find out why. Those gentle voices I hear, Explain it all with a sigh I agree with others. Days of Future Past is a great album - for daydreaming. |
The Moody Blues – The Story In Your Eyes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
My thoughts on this song were probably influenced by the cool album artwork. An old man and a boy gaze into some type of jewel probably looking at their fortune. The song also waivers between optimism and pessimism. That's kind of how my mind works. Optimism: We're part of the fire that is burning And from the ashes we can build another day Pessimism: But I'm frightened for your children And the life that we are living is in vain And the sunshine we've been waiting for Will turn to rain. Great music and lyrics. A classic! |
The Moody Blues – Question Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I always liked the Moody Blues music and lyrics; but that guy that sings falsetto is kind of irritating. |
Bebel Gilberto – So Nice (summer Samba) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is familiar to Bossa Nova fans, It's called Samba de Verao in Portuguese. My favorite version is by Caetano Veloso. |
Bebel Gilberto – August Day Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Translation: I've tried to tell I've tried to sing I've tried just la la la ia I've tried to play And also dance Like this, just to let it go I just want to give you If I tell you If just la la la ia I just want to be With your singing With you just la la la ia Just like this rainstorm This August day song I dream of places far beyond Hearing the rain fall From the grey, a shining here I stay alone, distracted Same tone Same sound How It's good, so good Just like the rainstorm This August day song I dream of places far beyond Hearing the rain fall A drop here in my foot I stay alone, so distracted I am not gonna cry When remembering Your eternal glance I like to sing And do these things With you just for a change I hear your voice I sing for choice With you just la la la ia |
Eagles – Already Gone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is one of the greatest break-up songs of all times. Too many break-up songs are sad and melancholy, but the message of this song is to "feel strong" and get on with life. I like it because it's so positive and upbeat. The Eagles are a great band, but I'm afraid younger music lovers don't give them proper respect cause they only play on adult contemporary radio today. This song shows they can rock. |
Christopher Cross – Poor Shirley Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is my favorite CC song so I posted the lyrics in case someone has some insight on the lyrics. I like the lyrics but I'm not sure what they mean. Is this about the pain of war? love? What does he mean "we'll take all the doubtful ones in the fight and make them hold off til spring. take hold of their hallowed souls and save them from pain?" |
Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The School of Rock DVD extras shows a humorous petition to Led Zeppelin to use this song in the movie. This song rocks, but I can't believe I threw away all my old 8-track tapes! |
Argent – Hold Your Head Up Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I like this song with the volume up loud. One of my all-time favorites. Good beat and upbeat! |
America – Sandman Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The eye of a hurricane has calm weather while the storm rages all around. An eagle that flies in the eye of a hurricane hopes to weather the storm. The guy must feel that way before he goes to war. |
America – Pigeon Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The lyrics are very strange and disturbing. The guy kills his pigeon and dog and destroys the bridge and his farm... and he's not sorry???? This was the worst song on the first album. I think it came out in the early 1970s during the period of antiestablishment movement, though I don't recall other America songs being political. |
America – Three Roses Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Very good song. I highly recommend America and this song in particular to anyone who likes accoustic guitars, rhythym and harmony. The lyrics aren't deep, but they really paint a picture. Romantic. |
