The Heath Ledger part makes sense, but I think this is totally a song about him remembering what happened with Kate. How she died of overdose. Maybe he recently went back to drugs hxc and he started thinking about the past. --- "Past midnight, breathing in the dark. Same strange friend comes to visit Never intend to open the door." --- Old drug dealers stop by. Bert never intended on going back, but addiction is hard to break. --- "You take it to places that no one's ever been You let it, you let it. Your insides caving in. You pushed and pulled, still wanting some more." --- Talking about overdose, or taking way too many drugs at once, and remembering the intoxicating high it gave him. --- "This time I've gone all the way without you. There's nothing more i can say." --- Since Kate is dead (died of overdose with his baby) he's saying, "this time, I went all the way without you." He took so many drugs. And this time, he did it alone, instead of with her. --- "So maybe I took a little too much. Maybe life didn't want this part of me. It it helps to know, I never let you go. Sure, I lost my mind. But I never really meant to die." --- Maybe he's talking about how losing her changed his life forever ("Sure, I lost my mind. But I never really meant to die.") and so he's using the word "Die" as a more internal state rather than external. He even says, "if it helps to know, I never let you go" which is mainly why I think this is a reference to Kate's death. He's saying that even though she's gone, he still misses her/never let go/isn't over the scar it left on him. The rest of the song is basically just about drug abuse along with the chorus. I can definitely see how he threw correlations to Heath Ledger's death in there, but I really think this is partly about Kate. |

I'm pretty sure this is about the girl wanting to kill herself, rather than the guy wanting to do it. Seems like the guy is hesitant, doesn't really want to die, but if it comes down to it he knows without her he's nothing. So if she goes, he goes, too. Also sounds like she's trying to convince him to stay away from her so he doesn't get hurt (Cut yourself in conversation. Cut a line to make me feel alive. 'Cause you know I'm not alive. And leave me with your complications. Take your life, you feel like taking mine.), but he won't have any of it (I'm not leaving. I'm not going. I'm not kissing you goodbye.) And at the end he's just trying to convince her not to do it. Beautiful song. Love the reference to On My Own off their first album. |

At first, I was like, "wtf?" since this comes right after Blood On My Hands, which is entirely different in rhythm and meaning compared to this song. But really, this song is amazing. Say it sounds poppy. Say it sounds like this, or that. But you're just being butthurt. The Used have always had at least one "poppy" sounding song on their album -- even their self-titled album. It's pretty much about a guy who loves a girl and just wants to be her everything despite the fact that he knows he's a little on the crazy side. He just wants her and him both to ignore all the horrible things in life, and go through them together. Even though it's difficult. Classic love song. |

spassi, here's a response: I love MCR, and I love The Used, so I'm not biased whatsoever. Both bands have my heart. So i'm just going to say what I think. When someone does something to you, that hurts you a lot, and betrays your trust, or lies to you, and breaks your heart, especially if you guys were VERY VERY CLOSE to eachother... it leaves a mark. It is not something you just "get over". It takes time, and depending on how much that person means to you and how able you are to deal with emotional loss, its a different time span. It could take a few weeks, a few months, or, it could take years. And usually after it happened the first feelings you have are 1. bitterness 2. anger 3. hatred. Why? Cause you've been betrayed, or felt like you've been betrayed. Berts response to MCR is nothing less then what i'd expect if he felt like he got betrayed. We also might take into consideration that Bert is an asshole in general, and he's not someone you want to piss off. He's an immature little bitch and thats why we love him. He's what all of us are scared to be: Himself. Gerard actually HAS written songs about Bert and the falling out. They aren't like this though, and that reason is because Bert was the one betrayed, not Gerard. And Gerard doesn't know how to handle that, but with depression, like most people on that side of the coin feel. So his songs are generally less anger-filled and more, I suppose we would say, "emo." Also, before you say "Gerard got over it" .. uh, do you know Gerard? No. And it's obvious in some of his songs that are about Bert that he is clearly NOT over it. Just because they dont make it public, doesnt mean its not there. The fans aren't suppose to know every little detail. This isn't fuckin' MTV reality shows. This is their personal lives, and they can either choose to express themselves or not. Anyway, I guess the point i'm trying to make is... Bert is human, and so is Gerard. They had a falling out, and they're both expressing it in their songs and in different ways. Bert being the betrayed, and Gerard being the supposed 'betrayee'. Until both their wounds heal and time moves on, or they forgive eachother, its going to be like this for quite a bit, and you'll just have to deal with it. Also, The Used band members personalities should not taint your view on their music or their songs. Music is not about the people playing it. And if you think that, then you don't deserve to listen to music because that is shallow and overall pathetic, and it makes you look like a mainstream-fan (even though you say you aren't and i'm sure you aren't.) Sorry if I was a bit rude, but I'm being honest with you. If you don't like the band cause of the music, fine. But don't even begin to pin it on because of their personalities or descisions in life, because that has NOTHING to do with how their music will sound. Also, bert is not jealous of MCRs success, because The Used is doing just as good. The only thing is that MCR has more teenage appeal because they are not as heavy as The Used are. Anyway, both bands are good, and I'm sad that they're having this fight, but seriously, that wont make me not like either one less/more. |

K this song is a response to MCRs song "Mama" (i dont care what the song is about.) this sounds like a huge response to it and basically a huge 'fuck you stop bitching'.' Why do I think that? Cause some of the lyrics here relate to that. This song ALSO relates STRONGLY to Berts religion, but, it seems to connect much more to MCR for me when I listen to it seeing as Bert has already directly addressed that this was about them at one of The Used's concerts. I think he's mocking their song Mama and heres why: First, the whole... ------- Liar, liar, pants on fire and the pills go down and get you higher baby bottles burning, mother fucker ------- This is about back in the day when Bert and Gerard would basically get fucking smashed, before Gerard became sober. Now... ------- and the mother hates him like the daughter lonely god and maker gripping tighter saying "you will burn in hell, they say!" "you will burn in hell!" ------- and ------- mother never loved you, father touched you with the hand of god he's gripping tighter, saying you will burn in hell they say, you will burn in hell! ------- These lyrics relate to Gerards singing about how his Father and Mother had given up on him in these lyrics from Mama ----- Well Mother, what the war did to my legs and to my tongue, You should have raised a baby girl I should have been a better son If you could coddle the infection, they can amputate at once You should’ve been I could have been a better son. ------ and ------ She said "you ain't no son of mine" For what you done they're gonna find A place for you and just you mind Your manners when you go. ------ He's basically saying "stop fucking crying" and shit about it, making fun of how the song goes/is/what its about. Saying how his mother never loved him, etc. In both the song Mama and Liar Liar, they are referring to eachother as liars. ------ Liar! Liar! Pants on fire Liar! Liar! Stop yourself from catching fire fire God and maker, liar! liar! pants on fire ------ And from Mama: ------- Mama, we're all full of lies. Mama, we're meant for the flies. And right now they're building a coffin your size. Mama, we're all full of lies. ------- The rest is just Bert making fun of Gerards attempt at being sober. I think that Bert honestly doesn't believe that Gerard is going to stay or really is sober because in the song he says: ------- Liar! Liar! house of fire and the glass they smashed seemed to ignite I bet your tummy hurts you, you mother fucker ------- He taunts him when he said "i bet your tummy hurts you, you mother fucker..." and he goes onto saying "liar" so I think he thinks Gerard is lying about being sober. Also you'll notice that in Mama Gerard talks about the fame that Bert and him had, and how it was what really ended their relationship. Where, you ask? Here: ------- And when we go don't blame us, yeah, We'll let the fire just bathe us, yeah, You made us oh so famous We’ll never let you go. And when you go don't return to me my love. ------- He's basically saying "yeah, i'm gonna burn in hell whatever" and "we'll never let you go" means "i'll never forget you, but when you go, dont come back" which he's saying to Bert, once you're gone, dont bother coming back. Finally, ------ We’re damned after all. Through fortune and fame we fall. And if you can stay then I’ll show you the way To return to the ashes you call. We all carry on, When our brothers in arms are gone, So raise your glass high, for tomorrow we die, And return from the ashes you call. ------- "Through fame and fortune we fall" he's saying, because of all whats happened, we've fallen out of eachothers presence and gone our seperate ways due to our different goals tainted by fame and fortune. I think I know exactly what this song is about.. so hear me out. But in the end, God always comes through if you stay faithful. For God so loved the world that he gave his own begotten son that whosoever believes in him will have eternal life. |

Its like when you stay in the same house for over 10 years, and then suddenly you move to a whole 'nother country you've ever been to. You feel insecure, out of place, weak, judged, and extremely fragile. You are in a place that you don't reconigze and know nothing about. Sometimes we get so sad, we forget what its like to be happy. It's about his struggle with God against one of his habits: Drinking. I'll explain... ----- Don't you try to take me down, don't you try to take me over, won't you try to break me? ----- He's talking about his alcoholic ways right here. He's saying, "Don't you try to take me over" as in "Don't you tempt me with alcohol for an escape to my problems." And then he goes "won't you try to break me?" its the tempted side of him looking for alcohol for an answer to break his situation as an escape. ----- The complexities moving in, and I feel that I do not have the strength, tragedies plaguing me solemnly Its affecting my will ----- "Complexities moving in" his problems are cornering him and he feels like he "does not have the strength" to deal with it. "Tragedies plagueing" him "solemnly" and its "affecting his will." Which means its affecting his will to want to quit drinking. ----- Wait now that I've found you, situations from dark now change to gray Disregarding my absence of memories, its perpetually blinding me of sanity, ----- "Wait, now that i've found you" he's given into drinking. Situations from "dark" seem to turn to "gray" to him as a result of it because the alcohol makes him forget and makes him disregard the "absence of memories." It is "perpetually blinding" his "sanity" because when you are drunk, you don't really know what you're doing because you're all liquor'd up. ----- and just when I'm giving in, as I try to scale these walls Jericho falls around me and I feel that I've strayed too long ----- This is when the guilt starts to come in. "Just when i'm giving in" just when he's giving into the temptations, he tries to "scale these walls" which means he tries to find a solution and the only result is "Jericho falls around me" which means his world just ends up falling apart if not worse. And the guilt settles in for what he has done, because he has sinned and disobeyed God (God says we are not to get drunk.) So he "feels like" he's "strayed too long." ----- And darkness is fading in…and darkness is real Oh my eyes oh closing slowly I try ----- Probably at this point he's about to pass out. "Darkness" as in "unconciousness" is "fading in." And it is "real." When he sings "oh my eyes, oh, closing slowly" hes saying how he's slipping into the darkness of his own unconciousness due to drinking. "I try" means either 1. He's trying to stay awake or 2. He's trying to stop doing this. ----- Fate seems to recreate, I just can not escape, ----- When he wakes up he gets another blast of reality. He realizes drinking did nothing but temporarily get rid of his problems and now that he's sober again he sees them all in plain view. "I just can not escape" he just cant get away from his issues no matter what he does, and now he's just made it worse by disobeying God AND getting further into drinking when he knows it wont help him. ----- Something holds me down and makes me act a way I can't explain. Even now I can feel it coming over me choking me, as I'm falling behind. ----- "Something holds" him "down." His own inner demon and issues with drinking hold him down, and "makes him act a way I can't explain." When you drink, you act differently then you normally would when your sober. So he acts in ways he can't even explain because their so not him. "Even now" he says, "I can feel it coming over me." The temptation to drink again just at the thought of what he's doing comes up again as an escape route (even though he knows it isnt.) It's "choking" him and he's "falling behind" in his faith because of it. ----- You can say you know me, but you have no clue what my dreams could show you. ----- Chances are by "dreams" he's probably having nightmares about whats going on in his life right now. And he's probably saying to a friend or someone trying to help him out, he's pushing them away and saying "you can say you know me but you have no clue." ----- I Can't Can't win ----- Self explanatory. He can't win. He's torn between his faith and his alcohol addiction. Drinking makes him feel better if just for a time, but its disobeying God, something he can't do. And without drinking, he feels like he cant survive, even if he is obeying God. To him, it looks like a lose-lose situation. ----- I feel something deep inside me, I feel deep inside I feel something deep inside me and I can't let this go, whoa, I feel something deep inside me and I can't let this go, whoa, ----- He "feels something deep inside" of him and he "can't let this go" because he's so addicted to it, he feels like he just can't let go of it. ----- Lie, as I try to steer clear, and I try to stay sober This is taking me over, And my dreams complicate it… ----- "Lie, as I try to steer clear" he probably is talking to himself here and how he's just lying to himself when he 's trying to stay away from alcohol and trying to believe it wont help him when in reality, he believes it can (even though it can't.) "I try to stay sober" supports the alcohol theory. He's trying to stay sober, but "this is taking" him "over".. the temptation and addiction is swallowing him up inside. And his "dreams complicate it." probably refers to what i said before about him having nightmares about the problems in his life. Even in unconciousness, he can't escape his problems. ----- I just can not let this go I tried so many times to tell you I just I can not let this go, I just can not win ----- He's arguing that he needs this when he doesnt. He's trying to say he just cannot let this addiction to alcohol go, and he's trying to tell God over and over again that it isn't going to work but he knows he "can not win." ----- See you I see you falling away I see you..you Killing me soflty I see you….you falling away I see you….you ----- He's talking about God and his relationship with him. Due to his alocholic addiction, it is screwing with his beliefs and his feelings and everything else, and he has lost dependance on God and due to it, "he" refering to "God" is "falling away" because he's straying away from God so much. He sees it "killing him softly" because he knows this is wrong, and he knows he cannot survive on his own without God. P.S: THE BACKGROUND VOICE IN THE ABOVE PART IS QUOTING ECCLESIASTES 7:3-9. IT EXPLAINS SO MUCH ABOUT THIS SONG. I've got the bible quote at the end of my post. ----- Don't take what's in front of me, open eyes can see I have everything. Tell you don't take what's in front of me, tell you don't take what's in me. ----- He's speaking to himself here when he says this. He's arguing with his own temptations and saying "Don't take what's infront of me" as in "dont take this relationship that I have with God away." As someone said above me, "open eyes can see I have everything" refers to he has everything because he has God. "Tell you don't take whats in me" he's talking about the Holy Spirit that comes into you when you get saved. ----- Lie, which one lied? When I feel it come a way, way that's why I try…lie ----- Now he's confused. He's not sure which one he should stay with. This evil force, this alcoholic addiction he feels he can't break from, or God. "Lie, which one lied?" he's trying to think which one is going to help him more. "When I feel it come away, way, thats why I try." He's saying he's trying when he feels the temptation come over him, but he lies to himself and falls into it. ----- I see you coming my way dreams may fall more everyday I see you looking my way ----- He sees God looking his way, watching to see if he will fall into the same temptation again. "Dreams may fall every day," may be refering to the dreams he has in whatever thing that is falling apart because of his addiction. ----- And I've tried just to separate dreams from reality. Watch to satisfy this wanting, Try to stay righteous, try to stay sober, but then, I can't win. ----- He's saying he's trying to seperate dreams from reality. Perhaps he's thinking that God isn't real at this point. And he's "watching" to "satisfy this wanting" this addiction that he has. And he's "trying" to stay "righteous" and trying to stay "sober" but he feels like then, he will fall to pieces without drinking and he can not win. ----- And I know you, and I know you, and I know you… Lie ----- And this is him finally telling himself that he knows the truth. He knows himself to know that alcohol is not the answer. He knows that tempted side within him, that inner demon, is lying to him when making him believe that alcohol is the only thing that can save him. Anyway, thats just my take on the song. Also, the bible quote said throughout one part is this: "Sorrow is better than laughter, for by a sad countenance the heart is made better. The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning. But the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise than for a man to hear the song of fools. For like the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool. This also is vanity. Surely oppresion destroys a wise man's reason. And a bribe debases the heart. The end of a thing is better then its beginning. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools." - Ecclesiastes 6:3-9. Overall, great song, means a lot. And if anyone here has an alcohol addiction: Drop it. Drugs, sex, alcohol.. its never the answer. Only Jesus can save you. :] btw, glad to find out this is a christian band. I can really relate. |

Mmkay, I think the lyrics speak for themselves but heres my interpretation. First degree, though it may be, I might as well put my opinion out there if for nothing more then shedding some light. ---- Now I see the truth in your eyes. This time it could be forever. ---- "Now I see the truth in your eyes" is basically corrospondent to the saying that you can tell what a persons truly feeling by looking them in the eyes. The eyes are windows to the soul. He sees the 'truth'.. what she's really thinking. But he hadn't seen it until now (which is why he says "Now I see" instead of "I see.") "This time it could be forever" means that he's thinking that this could last forever. But notice the "could." So he's basically questioning their relationship as of now. He thinks this one could last forever. ---- Now I see the truth in your eyes. Tell me what you're looking for. --- "Tell me what you're looking for" shows that she's confused. She's not at all sure about this relationship lasting forever as he is. It's like fighting fire against water. He's asking her what is she looking for, what does she want. It shows her place in the relationship, and it shows she is having doubts, and she does not think/does not want this to last forever as he does. ---- To fall asleep with you would be heaven; for once this dream wont be short lived. Take me with you, show me all lifes splendors. ---- Basically just him telling her how much he cares about her. He doesn't need a lot, all he wants is to just lay with her. Be with her. He wants her to take him away. He thinks she is the epitome of perfection; he's dumbstruck in love, and he's just saying that to her, trying to explain it. "For once this dream won't be short-lived" could mean "for once I won't give up that easily." ---- I've been waiting for lifes last breath. ---- This could mean that she IS what he's living for. "I've been waiting for lifes last breath" Means he's just been waiting to die. His life means nothing, but she gives him something to wake up for. ---- The world wouldn't turn without you; breathing its air, id take you anywhere. ---- Just once again going over how much he cares about her and how much he just wants to be with her. How much he can't live without her. "The world wouldn't turn without you breathing its air"... for him, life is meaningless without her there. ---- For once this is one of those dreams that i can spare, but youd rather spare me. ---- He's trying to explain that he'd give up everything he has for her, just to be with her. "For once this is one of those dreams I can spare." means "For once, I have something to give up my dreams for. You." But she's not taking it. She'd "rather spare him." It means that she's not in love with him as he is with her. Her feelings towards him may be one of love just dying away, and he's trying to hold on as long as he can to something that doesn't care. ---- Now i see the truth in your eyes. This time it will be forever. Ill trust you if youll just trust me. ---- Once again referring to the above. "I'll trust you if you trust me" is him saying that he'll trust her, if she just trusts him. But the thing is, she doesn't trust him, nor does she love him. He's giving her a descision. Also notice he says "This time it'll be forever" instead of "This time it could be forever." He's saying "I'm going to spend forever with you, if you just trust and love me." ---- If this isn't what you wanted, then tell me what is. (tell me) ---- "IF this isn't what you wanted" means that she doesn't want to spend forever with him. She doesn't love him. And he's trying to compromise now with her feelings by saying "then tell me what is" in other words, "I'll do whatever you want, just tell me." But she wont. ---- And our roles have been filled, as they should with hidden messages in secret songs. ---- "And our roles have been filled as they should." could mean that they've replaced eachother with different people, different lovers. They've moved on, they've broken up. But he still has feelings for her. "Hidden messages in secret songs" Means he still cares about her so much, even though she's left him and he has someone else. He's hiding that message within this song. ---- This is my last breath of air, your last chance to live. ---- Maybe referring to their break up. "This is my last breath of air" because he had been living for her, but she's gone. "This is your last chance to live" means this is your last chance to feel alive, and spend forever with someone who'll never stop loving you. ---- I'll never miss it, the way you regret. ---- After the break-up, he realizes that he'll never miss the way she regrets. Maybe apart of her personality is that she's regretful of things, and he didnt like that but dealt with it when they were together, but now they aren't so he says he'll "never miss it." ---- And "everything" means "everyone." ---- Probably referring to something she might've said. Quoted from an arguement they might've had. She tried to avoid the actual subject by saying "everything" when she really meant "everyone" and he figured that out. ---- The second I thought that I had it all You were the first one to tell me i'm wrong. ---- "The second I thought that I had it all" the time he thought where they would be together forever, she was "the first one to tell me i'm wrong"... she was the one who left. She was the one who said "No, I'm not spending the rest of my life with you." She was the first one to tell him, he's wrong. ---- For you are my life, and all this encompasses, everything that's about me. ---- He's saying "you are my life, you are everything about me, to me." He still loves her, though they've gone their seperate ways. ---- So live all your days as if we had never met. They'll be better then the ones we spent. ---- This is him trying to move on with a witty comment of "they'll be better then the ones we spent." but he knows in his heart he still loves her, though he tries to portray himself with hate.. he still cares. Even though she's completely moved on. So yeah. That's my intake. Love this song =D |

Sounds like a friendship that he wants to go further but she's already with someone and she doesn't have the same feelings for him. Just my opinion. Love the song. Has to be my favorite on Louder Now. Adam is so amazing.... I agree "You've settled for less, then I'm sure you'll settle again" is the best line ever. |

first of all. John is no better than Adam Lazarra. Btw atleast spell Adams last name right before you go talking about him. TBS split up. Big whoop. Stop whining about it. John didn't make TBS, and I really doubt they still despise eachother after all these years. If so, thats a petty way to settle a dispute. I like this song, but Straylight Run is a bunch of hypocrits. They say they dont want to be like anyone else, when in reality they're not that different from most bands anyway. Personally I like TBS better. |
