| The Fray – The Wind Lyrics
|
"Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." - Jesus in John 3:7-8.
He's sort of waiting for The Wind, this motion of new birth to come into his life. He feels alone, and feels like his spirit is breaking, but he's hoping it's just a bad time, and that he will bend and The Wind will come and renew him. He realizes that God was waiting for him on the shoreline where he thought he had been left alone. God never really left.
When he says, "Tried to kiss the emptiness," I think he means he was getting sucked into the world and what it does, trying to embrace the emptiness in hopes that it would bring some fulfillment, but really there is nothing in emptiness, and he finally realized that.
As stated in the previous comments, the members are Christians, originally a teen worship band at their church. I feel like Scars and Stories has much more religious themes than any of their other stuff (I think they tried to avoid it so they didn't get labeled as "Christian"). |

First of all, this is the best song Jon has written. Have been waiting for his songwriting to really come back around since The Beautiful Letdown. Since eighth grade, Twenty Four has been my favorite song of all time. Now, as a senior in college, Where I Belong has taken over. It's just tremendously beautiful. I also love how this is, by far, their longest song. They just jam out. I wish it would never end.
The song is about someone who is close to death. He is questioning his purpose in life, or if he even had one.
When he says, "Feeling like a tragedy," he is implying he doesn't think his life went the way it was supposed to. An unhappy ending. I imagine a lot of people lie on their deathbeds and think back on their lives with regret, even if they led good lives.
Of course, he might not even be dying at all, because later he talks about how "we're just waiting" and other things in the present tense. He wants to "feel the earth start shaking" (Maybe Jesus' second coming?).
Another interesting line is "On that final day I die..." Reminds me of 1 Corinthians 15:31 about Paul dying daily to renew himself in Jesus. So the final day he dies is him actually dying.
The shores of Babylon thing is also cool. The shore has always been a place of peace and hope in literature. I'm reading Lord of the Rings right now, and they go to the Gray Havens (the Elves, at least) and are able to sail to Valinor, their heaven on earth, of sorts. |

Easily one of the best songs Jon has ever written. Jon's finally returning to the simpler, yet so powerful, lyrics like the stuff on The Beautiful Letdown. Sort of a continuation of This Is Home, but in a deeper way. The song is maybe Jon's best attempt at tackling the issue every person deals with - feeling like they don't belong. The realization he presents though, is that we don't belong here on Earth, but with God. This song is longing for Heaven, but at the same time knowing Go has a purpose for us here. |

"So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." - 1 Corinthians 13
He mentions faith, hope and love in succession in this song.
This is honestly one of the most well-written songs Mankind will ever see. Tremendous. It's amazing these guys did their greatest work with these three EPs. Sad that they called a quits, but grateful to have experienced it. |

Amazing song. It's been a good year since I've been with God and I heard this song and it was just like Him welcoming me back. I can relate to this song so much because I've struggled with demons and thought that God didn't want me because I keep saying I'm going to live my life differently and then fall back into my old ways. But as God's children, He's willing to forgive all of us for anything we've ever done. ANYTHING! All we have to do is ask for his forgiveness and turn away from sin. Praise His redemptive power! |

He and Matt Thiessen are friends. Thiessen provided background vocals on a few of the songs on Ocean Eyes. You can tell Adam is heavily influenced by Thiessen/Relient K. In the song Dental Care he says, "Golf and alcohol don't mix, and that's why I don't drink and drive." That's such a Thiessen thing, especially from Relient K's earlier stuff. |

What an awesome title track. Love conquers all. It won't be easy. You've got to fight. But weather the storm (physically and metaphorically), and be better and stronger because of it.
Below is a link of Jon talking specifically about this song:

In this one, Jon is singing to a girl who is losing hope for her life. She feels like she's lost in all of it, that maybe God doesn't care about her (needle in the haystack). But Jon's just like "look around! we're here for a reason! things get better." Beautiful song about keeping hope and keeping in mind that this life is a blessing. |

Supposedly, this is about how this album was the first where all four of the guys had input on the writing, and how they were at each other's throats about it. They got a new producer for an outside opinion, and now we have the new album. It's just an apology to the guys, and a longing to move on. |

I think the line is "we suffer, we bleed" not "except for the bleed."
This song is so beautiful. It's an apology song, and it's calling for both parties to apologize. The writer just wants things to go back to the way they were when their relationship first started. The chorus is just saying that love isn't easy. It isn't just going to fall into place, but you have to really work at it.
This song shows MUTEMATH's ability and versatility as songwriters. It is completely different from the rest of the album, but it is so good |

This song was one of those songs that could make me smile no matter what, and that was before I met a special someone. The relationship is pretty new, and I still am in the stage where I get butterflies every time I see her. We were listening to the radio and this song came on and it was perfect for how I feel. Pure happiness. |

You guys are all geniuses. I don't know what I would do without this website to help me figure out some of these songs.
This is a very mature song, though. Can you imagine how hard it would be to tell the woman you love, "I love you, but Jesus is more important than you could ever be."??? And he doesn't just say it once, but over and over he "lets her go." Not only that, he seems happy about it, because the Holy Spirit is filling him more than any earthly relationship could. We get swept up in romantics sometimes, saying to a spouse in a vow that we love them, they complete us, and all of that other stuff, but we should have those feelings about God too. After that relationship develops, then the relationship with the girl can work. |

This reminds me of Matthew 17:20-21 "He said to them, Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."
The other stuff in the song, like spreading the news, this song may be about the apostles. I've heard Gavin is Christian, but I don't know. This is my best guess.

I think this song is about a loved one, maybe a spouse. Part of his identity was with her, so when she died, he didn't know who he was without her. A part of him was gone. When someone you love passes, other people who weren't as close that person get over it more quickly. But for you, it may take longer than what you think is normal. He knows he'll see his wife again in heaven, but for now he still is having a hard time making it by himself. |

| The Classic Crime – Just a Man Lyrics

I think that the second line is intangible instead of tangible.
For the meaning I'd say everybody else hit it. I don't think this song is necessarily pointing toward God and that he is the real savior. I was wondering if this is supposed to be a concept album and I googled it and someone said that the singer said at a concert that the songs on the album are supposed to be about life, death, or the transition. Supposedly when you have a near-death experience and do the whole out-of-body thing you see yourself connected to your body by a silver cord.
Anyway, I'd say this guy is looking back on his life and how he made money off of religion and he's sorry about it. It's kind of a warning not to repeat how people idolized him. |

| Gavin DeGraw – Medicate The Kids Lyrics

|
I think it's cool how Gavin's like 30 but he can still relate to kids of this generation. He says "...back of of US." It's obvious about the meaning of this song. I think the "feathers turn to quills" line is about how a feather is the beautiful, natural thing, but that's not good enough for some people. Since it has no use as just a feather, people use it as a quill. It represents the kid on medication. He's not good enough the way he is, so we have to alter him, and his personality. |

Alright, to the actual meaning of the song. It's really beautiful actually, and I just got it while in church this Sunday. The lights dimmed and the trays with the bread and grape juice passed through the rows. For the first time in my life I asked myself "is it real?" Is there a heaven or hell? Eternal life? Jesus? There are constantly struggles in our lives that make us question our faith. This song is saying it's real. Don't stop believing. He wonders if God is there (sometimes we all wonder). The fading hearts in the song are people's faith fading away. We are the real though, and the truth is unchanging. So if you know that it's real in your heart, than it will always be real. |

| Anberlin – Paperthin Hymn Lyrics
|
I know I'm probably repeating stuff that some people have said, but here goes:
I've had this cd for about a year and a half, and I think I realized how special the song was maybe 8 months ago, even if I didn't know why. "Zu meine oma" is written at the top of the lyrics in the cover pamphlet, and someone on here said that means something like "to my grandma" in latin, so I'll take their word for it. Although someone gave the valid suggestion that it was about the celebrity life, I think it's about his grandma/ a loved one. I think the paper heart represents his relationship with his grandma. He loves her, he knows she loves him, but only through a card for his birthday and Christmas, and that's about the extent of their communication. When he says "I thought you said forever," she may not have said those words, but you never think that the people you love will ever leave you. Than the sleepless nights are when he stays up all night and the thoughts run through his head, and that in itself is the bitter oblivion he will have to deal with for the rest of his life.
Aside from the lyrics, I want to say that this is an amazing song musically. This epitomizes what a true Emo song is. Because of stupid commercialized bands trying to make it, emo has gotten a bad rep (My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco, Dashboard Confessional, so on). Just because those bands dress in black, where eyeliner, or have whiney voices and whine about how tough they've had it because they are weird doesn't mean they are emo. In fact, this is one of the very very few truly emo songs I have ever heard. The best way I can explain emo is this: it's intense and dramatic music that makes you feel a sense of urgency. It's very chaotic. This doesn't mean turning up the distortion and playing constant power chords. I'll put it this way: a lot of us don't really understand what this song even means, but it's probably brought a lot of us to tears. The song expresses EMOtion through the music. Although many songs express emotion, the intensity is the main characteristic of true emo. |

warade: if it touched someone, then I am wrong. It just didn't touch me like Mmhmm. And I disagree with you about how they progressed, I think most of this album was a digression. They had really shed their happy go lucky teen face and really grew up with deep meaningful lyrics on Mmhmm, and the Apathetic EP seemed like they could go even further. But then I listened to Five Score and it seemed like they took a step backwards to where they had been with Two Lefts. I just don't get how they changed that much from Apathetic EP to this, and for me it's a dissapointment |

This song is really sad, but a catchy song like all of them. I had the thought that it's about how God is the only constant in a world where everything else can and probably will let you down. The part "while the house I built is breaking" reminds me of that Casting Crowns song that says "I'd take a shack on a rock over a castle in the sand." I don't know if that's a bible verse or anything but it just reminded me that this life will be gone eventually. |

I've had this album for a couple of years and this song always seemed like a misfit to me, and I had no idea why. But I just recently "relistened" to the cd again and this one felt like it was about God, not a girl like most of the other songs. It seems like it's just about how he want's the Holy Spirit to change him so he can "see something that's different." He knows he screws up, but he wants to change for God. |

They were like 20 when they made Legend Of Chin, so they were just kids goofing around with music during college. Even that had more Christian songs on the album. None of the Oh! Gravity songs move me like 24, On Fire, Learning To Breath. It's like they evolved up to The Beautiful Letdown and then started de-evolving (lyrically). Back in the Early Years they had stuff in their lyrics like "God of redemption." Then during recent years they say things like Tim did: "We are Christians by faith, not by genre." Everyone still considers them a Christian band, even though they don't. I don't think they would've made it big time either unless they had ridden this wave of Christian music piling on the mainstream.
I am a diehard Switchfoot fan, so this is very hard for me to say. I'm torn, and I want to be proven wrong. |
