Hold on to the way we started,
How it all should've gone.
Somewhere love was disregarded
And it all came undone, undone.
'Cause nothing's a breeze,
We suffer, we bleed,
For two hearts to beat as one.
We learn as we go,
At least now we know,
Something we can't become, become.
If a talk could really solve this,
What are we fighting for?
Words hurt more when they are honest,
Don't say any more, any more.
'Cause nothing's a breeze,
We suffer, we bleed,
For two hearts to beat as one.
We learn as we go,
At least now we know,
Something we can't become, become
Oh, for a year we were strong and courageous
But we lost it somehow.
Oh, if there was something that could've saved us
We'd have found it by now.
But nothing's a breeze,
We suffer, we bleed,
For two hearts to beat as one.
We learn as we go,
At least now we know,
Something we can't become, become
There's no luck in our lives,
No living under starlight,
There’s no sign in your eyes,
To keep us from running around in circles anymore.
Whoa...
Hold on to the way we started,
How it all should've gone.
How it all should've gone.
Somewhere love was disregarded
And it all came undone, undone.
We suffer, we bleed,
For two hearts to beat as one.
We learn as we go,
At least now we know,
Something we can't become, become.
What are we fighting for?
Words hurt more when they are honest,
Don't say any more, any more.
We suffer, we bleed,
For two hearts to beat as one.
We learn as we go,
At least now we know,
Something we can't become, become
But we lost it somehow.
Oh, if there was something that could've saved us
We'd have found it by now.
We suffer, we bleed,
For two hearts to beat as one.
We learn as we go,
At least now we know,
Something we can't become, become
No living under starlight,
There’s no sign in your eyes,
To keep us from running around in circles anymore.
How it all should've gone.

I think the line is "we suffer, we bleed" not "except for the bleed."
This song is so beautiful. It's an apology song, and it's calling for both parties to apologize. The writer just wants things to go back to the way they were when their relationship first started. The chorus is just saying that love isn't easy. It isn't just going to fall into place, but you have to really work at it.
This song shows MUTEMATH's ability and versatility as songwriters. It is completely different from the rest of the album, but it is so good
This is a song I definitely wouldn't expect to hear from Mute Math, both lyrically and musically. Beautiful, though.
I don't personally see it as a call to start over--things are just too far gone for that. I hear the line "Hold on to the way we started" as his request for them to look back on their relationship fondly, from the lens of what should have happened.
Also, I think the line "Words hurt more when they are honest, Don't say any more, any more." is wonderful. Perfectly describes that point where it's past arguing and fighting, and just time for the two of them to part ways.
Overall, one of the better songs on the new record I think, though like Christa I was pleasantly surprised to hear something so personal from Mute Math.
