ok for a start in rainbows disk 1 and 2 are simply stunning and amazing the best radiohead album so far and probably the best musical experience money can buy. as for this song, wow. what an opener, i just love everything about this song, so funky, with one of the cachiest guitar lines ive heard when it comes in, and the odd timing done on bass drum and tippity taps, its just so cool, ive never heard anything quite like it. as for the lyrics, well what they mean to me. i suppose seeing a friend after a long time of absense, and trying to remember what it was that made you friends with the person in the first place and realising that youve completely lost touch and that youve changed as a person yourself. no doupt thom yorke wasnt thinking this at all when he wrote the lyrics, but its just how i perceive them. the lines comes to us all its as soft as your pillow, are obviously about death. |

this a disturbing song. the lyrics and melody are very unsettling as well as the way it is sung. "are you fraaaaaaaaaacturiiiiiinnng" christ scary stuff.
Around the time that i first heard this song i had watched a documentary about a belgian paedophile that would keep little girls in tiny cages in his basement. some of the lyrics tie in with that and this song makes me think of that when i hear it making it a very depressing song for me. its a great song but i often have to skip it for this reason. |

i love this song, as a song writer myself it made me realise that music is music, and anything goes. as long as it creates a mood or gets across a feeling then it has succeeded. as for the music, i think its that down hopeless feeling you get when you learn of some heart breaking travesty in some part of the world that you can do very little about, so you have to try and forget about it and pretend its not happening. maybe that was a bit harsh the first post i made, sorry you two. i was really turned off them when i was in a band with 3 other metallica fans, aside from the fact that they were always playing metallica and i didnt enjoy their music, the other band members were really really arrogant (much like metallica) and acted like they were the only band in the world. there is better music out there if you can be bothered to find it Iron Maiden is a class metal act. then i watched some kind of monster and i wasnt at all impressed with the way they conducted themselves. theyre the absolute stereotype of rich whinny spoiled bratts. but i suppose some kind of monster was funny in a spinal tap way. |
