I think the demo to this song is great. I prefer the lyrics to the ones that they used in the final version. I love the line: "We watch this candle burn and melt away in the dark" It really makes you think about the unending hopelessness that they must feel. |

Lukefun, you ask what makes the arctic monkeys special. I agree that it’s not breaking records. It’s because they write good, fun songs that people can relate to. Who hasn’t looked at someone and thought ‘wow your hot?’ As for the writing about real issues crap… When I’m out on a Saturday night I don’t want to listen to songs reminding me that the world is full of poverty, war and destruction. Call me shallow or ignorant if you want but I go out to have a good time and forget that the world is a shithole for a few hours. Now for the song, it’s not the best song ever written but it always sounds good on a night out and that’s good enough for me! “Dirty dancefloors and dreams of naughtiness!” – I hear that! |

Wow i think this is one of the best songs on the album, can't believe there is only one comment! I think the song is about someone putting on a fake show in public of being happy and successful but in private they are depressed and have some serious issues! They are trying to keep up the pretence but finding it increasingly hard and at the end realise that they just can't and they are ehading for a breakdown. Not sure what the weather report in the middle of the song is all about though! |

I have only read some of the coments about this song cos there are so many but i thought throw my thoughts in. This song isn't just about chavs. Its about an average nigtht out in Leeds, although it could relate to anywhere. People are all so drunk and violent that if you actually stop and look around a city centre after dark is a vey scary and unsafe place to be. You don't even have to be doing anything wrong to get into trouble, one of my friends was beaten up the other week just standing by a cash point! Just another comment to caitsith01 about her comment: ""Is not very pretty I tell thee" This is the worst rhyme I have ever heard... who the hell says 'thee'? Lazy. Ok song, but Kaiser Chiefs have simplistic lyrics IMHO." Its not a bad rhyme and people do use the word 'thee'. Obviously you are one of these annoying people from London who think the world ends at Watford! If you dared travel North to Leeds you would hear the word being used! |

This is a great song! Im not convinced that its about breaking up with someone though. "If they offered a test about being a good friend". It sounds more like a fuck you to a friend who screwed you over than to an ex. The tour manager makes sense to me. |

This song is definately not about the LA traffic!! Its about how people leave home and go to LA for the lifestyle and to try and make it big there because they think it will be better than their home town. Its turns out that its not as good as they thought and they should have just stayed at home. The last line "Its one less car thats in the way" is when they raelise that LA is shit and leave. |
