Time Honoured Tradition Lyrics
(Y'all right big belly?)
Well it's a time honoured tradition
To get enough nutrition
Stay alive until you die
And that is the end of you
And I pity the fools
Who don't recognize the rules
We cannot cheat the reaper's reap
And that is the end of that
That is the end of that
That is the end of that
That is the end of that
Ho ho ho ho...
Well it's not an old wives tale
Too much red meat and ale
Will make you pay get five a day
Or that is the end of you
And it's a common misconception
But true without exception
These nights of booze catch up with you's
And that is an actual fact
That is the end of that
That is the end of that
That is the end of that
Ho ho ho ho...
La la la la la...
Ho ho ho ho...
La la la la la...
It's a time honoured tradition

I think this is just stating things that have been, and will always, be true. i.e. Stay alive until you die & These nights of booze catch up with you's.
is it just me, or does this song sound slightly similar to the theme of "Gilligan's Island"?
Personally, I think this song is meaningless!
It's a song about health - t'Chiefs in a nutshell really... You gotta love those guys!
Meaningless??? Are you having a laugh?
Its about the fact that we will die! You can choose how to live your life and you can be healthy but in the end we will all die:
"You cannot cheat the reaper's reap And that is the end of that"
It's about food, durrh. Seriously... if you read it, listen to it, it all leads back to lunch. "to get enough nutrition" And also the sfx at the beginning, with the clanging of pots. It's about if you don't eat you'll die. And the rules are... you must eat! I think I can relate everything to lunchtime though.
well the firts time i heard this song i also had to think abpout food, perhaps its about wasting time in life? ihmm i think the song goes deeper than only the food...but dunno...well i like it cuz it grooves!
bein' a yorksheer lass i can't help thinking i've heard this song about 10 years ago sung by a group of Pierrots (black and white makeup type clowns) in Filey on the Yorkshire coast at an Edwardian Festival? could this have been the Kaisers in their early days I wonder?
first time i heard this song i assumed it was about beer
haha nuff said
I think it's about the common know of the fact that death comes upon us all. I think the author goes on to write of examples of people that consistently ignore the fact that death is upon them, a fact that if they realized, would be potent in rendering their efforts useless.
For example, if death is inevitable and often random (as a fact of life) is it not laughable to: Worry about the nutrition thing Worry about the boos catching up
I think he writes from both sides.
That's my word.
