I think these lines are referring to the idea that God is sufficiently relational within Himself between the Father Son and Holy Spirit.
Therefore Jesus was maybe suggesting that maybe they shouldn't go through with the cross in order to reconcile humanity back to God, but rather just allow the earth to self destruct apart from God. Leaving them (the trinity) to be a family all their own.

HunnaCole that was a great analysis. I think this song is about Charles Fink's journey of coming to terms with his experience of existence and love using a evolutionary framework. I think this song is a perfect embodiment of an evolutionary, atheistic and existential worldview. Realizing the world and our existence is random and futile and then trying to find meaning to live despite that. I absolutely love the line about God and love, I think hes on to something really huge there. |

I think he might be using evolution as a metaphor for his experience of growing up and meeting a girl. Out of the water, thought we were only animals, felt like a thousand years. Its almost as if hes saying we've coming so far from water but now we are denying that we came from water and are hiding in a false reality of technology the "radios hot sun". I really like mha105's idea as well! and dreams of pavement I dont see much being biblical about it. Peace. |

I think there the line about robbing from the poor while reciting this prayer is commenting on the abuse of God's grace. His forgiveness/faithfulness through Christ has forgiven all sins that we will do, However we are in a position to respond to that grace. If we are using God's patient faithfulness for opportunity or justification of sin then it could be the abuse that Salinger/ColdWarKids are commenting on.
When seperated from all meaning(heart), a prayer itself can become a heap of empty phrases being chanted. The bible if idolized and literalized can become just a bunch of words.
I think being a Christian is a progressive relationship that is played out day by day choice by choice that will echo into eternity. We are getting closer everyday. |

This song to me simply presents a situation(old men dying in hospital together) that brings forth whirlwind of emotions that they could be going through. Longing for family (Bring your nieces and your cousins), straight up pain (fire) joy (sharing memories/friendship), boredom, fear of death, anger/frustration. Basically a broad spectrum of all of lifes emotions. What I think is true that Cold War Kids are pointing out is that we were not made to carry these burdons as lone soldiers thoughout our lives, but to share them both joy and sadness. Its a beautiful way to die in a sense. I really like how Cold War Kids are writing this stuff. |

i think she might be trying to say that our lives arnt as good as we convince ourselves they are, and basically we are just disillusioned because we dress the world up and tell ourselves we have a good life, missseeing it for what it really is, our hell. If we stopped pretending the world/ourlives are good, we'd see what it really is and it would be devistating for us and emily (When we stop my hands will shake,
My eyes will burn, my throat will ache) what she thought was good(the world/her life) really isnt at all. The bullet in the gun refers to our fates being sealed by death and i think she could have being trying to save mabye her father since he died recently. Basically i think shes expressing how she sees the world in her time of grieving over her father. |

Wow, this is an amazing song. It has so much life to it. My only complaint here is the lyrics. Possibly the best song on their new CD but its so disgusting. I usually hate this kind of music but i have to say I love the sound of this song. unfourtunaly, although the lyrics add to the overall intensity they totally turned me off. this is disgusting stuff. And the fact that the beatles reference is in there makes me mad, this type of music and the beatles should never have anything to do with each other |
