On another note i forgot to mention its actually refreshing and nice to hear Ben Gibbard singing for once on a song rather than just saying a line of a lyric, pausing and then saying another line of a lyric, if i have any criticism of his singing it would be that and it can sometimes be an irritation on certain Death Cab for Cuttie tracks. |

Dark Was the Night is probably the best selection of indie artists ever put together in one album to create a compilation of truly original new music and new takes on old songs. This song in particular is my favorite of the whole album, i can really relate to it and i love the ghostly sound it has as well as the guitar chord, the combination of singing voices from Feist and Ben Gibbard are perfect. |

One hell of a beautifully ghostly track, think this song is kinda obvious its about the death of a relative in the family in this case Polly's grandmother and missing them and having them there to talk to in time of wise words and advice. great song. Such a catchy tune, the keybaords with the heavy guitar works so well. Not quite sure about the meaning behind this one but im guessing something to do with a new found freindship turning in to lies and decet and not having that anymore and trying to get that person to realise your POV .
Once again Paul Smith delivers great lyrics with a good storytelling technique at tell the audience how he feels even if it may not be personal. |

This is a great Black Rebel song which I am surprised no one has commented on yet, the use of just a voice and one instrument is very interesting and something they don’t do often. With this song and to me I think the song is all about waiting for someone and they don’t come or you holding on to something that will never happen such as relationship and the pain it causes, but you continue. |
