| Cursive – From the Hips Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think you got it right about overanalization, but I saw it through the point of a relationship. Like, when people first meet they try to put on this mask and seem perfect and ideal, but really this just makes things worst by doing this. We're really just best as sexual animals and we just work better when we don't try to hide ourselves. | |
| Metric – Standing in Line Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I love the line "it's gonna hurt when you get just what you want". I don't think this song is going to be on the new album though. :( | |
| Mae – Embers and Envelopes (2008) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I really like this version. The first one was never my favorite song by them (even though I do like it a lot) so I like that they did something new with it and the little lyric changes. I think maybe they took out the religious reference so it wasn't aimed towards just religion and more people could relate to it (because I know they don't want to be considered a Christian band). I also think it was the first song they wrote/recorded as a band so it's sort of looking at their past and looking ahead. | |
| Kevin Devine – Love Me, I'm a Liberal Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is great. I think it's based on this song: http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/ochs-phil/love-me-im-a-liberal-11453.html but the lyrics are changed to talk about modern politics. |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Cath... Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is probably my favorite song off the new album. The video is great too. I agree with pretty much all the comments. It does remind me of Death of an Interior Decorative too, though that was based on the movie Interiors. That's interesting about what somebody said about Cath meaning a catheter. I also kind of thought it was short for Catholic, like how it refers to a wedding and how in religion, you're sort of expected to do certain things. I don't know if that was intentional though. |
| Ben Folds – You Don't Know Me (feat. Regina Spektor) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is really good. I love that Ben Folds and Regina Spektor decided to do a song together. I think the meaning is pretty clear - about a couple that realizes that (either while in a couple or after the relationship is over) they never really knew/understood each other completely. | |
| Metric – Soft Rock Star Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with what everyone said. I think it's about being pressured in to something you're not when you're in the music industry. I wonder if she had a personal experience of some record company or somebody wanting her to be a certain image? I thought of "soft porn star" too when I first heard the song title too. I think it's sort of making a connection to how celebrities are kind of like soft porn stars, they try to be sexy without being overly revealing. I think the "hang high soft rock star" is kind of like the record company or manager or whatever influence is telling her to be in the spotlight ("hang high"). |
| Regina Spektor – Mermaid Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I love this song. In the original version, it's actually a really sad story (as someone mentioned) and I'm pretty sure that every time she walks, she feels like there's blades in her feet or something. And the whole story is about unrequited love, with an unhappy ending. I don't know if Regina meant to connect that story, but that's what I thought of. How she sold her voice, but it's not really worth it because he (or whatever else it could be a metaphor for) is not worth it in the end. | |
| Mogwai – Kids Will Be Skeletons Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is one of the most beautiful songs ever. I agree with it being about, sort of the cycle of life. how kids will eventually be skeletons one day. |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Talking Bird Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I like it. The lyrics are nice. This line really stuck out for me, "the longer you think the less you know what to do". I feel like the talking bird is a metaphor for something, maybe he's at a point of his life where he's not sure if he wants to make a change or stay in one place? |
| Panic! at the Disco – Do You Know What I'm Seeing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I really like the lyrics to this song. I'm not sure what it's about though, but I think I heard that these lines meant a lot to Ryan. I love the lines from "I know it's mad but if I go to hell will you come with me or just leave? I know it's mad but if the world were ending would you kiss me or just leave me?" |
| The Weepies – All Good Things Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is a pretty song. I think it's a Mandy Moore cover? She has the exact same song on her album (unless hers is also a cover?) | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Possess Your Heart Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm excited for this album. :) As for the meaning, I got that it was about a boy wanting a girl (obviously), but the quote above makes the song make a lot more sense to me. I was just thinking the way the song is set up is sort of like "Natural Anthem" by Postal Service, with his voice coming in at the end (and having pretty simple, repetitive lyrics). |
| Jack Johnson – Same Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Pretty song, about his wife. I love the line where he talks about her building picture frames. | |
| Figurine – Heartfelt Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song. | |
| Fall Out Boy – It's Hard to Say "I Do", When I Don't Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is so good. It should've made the album. I love the title too...the winner came up with a great name and it fits with the song. I think it's about a (past ?) relationship that he's just saying he's over with it... like the title says, he doesn't have feelings for her anymore and there's nothing the person can do about it. There's something about fame too ("I've got the red carpet blues baby") and maybe how fame has effected the relationship. jjones2208, those are my two favorite lines too. especially the first one. :) |
| Dntel – Dumb Luck Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i agree with the above post and many of the interpretations on here. i was just going to say, the lyrics remind me a little of "don't get your hopes up"... and he has a whole album called "something always goes wrong". and that def. fits with the above meaning. right now, i'm listening to "fear of corners", which is exactly what you were talking about. unfortunately, i can relate somewhat to the feeling of something always going wrong...just always that fear of realizing when something is going well, it's bound to get messed up at one point and living like that. |
| Kenna – Loose Wires/Blink Radio Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I don't know exactly what the song is about, but it makes a reference to the book Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. I just read this section of the book that talked on Kenna. I only read that section of the book, but it was talking about how people in the music business/big music fans loved Kenna's music right away and they thought his music would be a major hit, but when they showed it to masses to see if they should play his music on the radio, it got really low ratings. The end def. refers to this and it might sort of be about writing a song? And how he can't really get hits ("All the hits that I've been missing"), but I think the song takes a positive approach. | |
| As Tall as Lions – Breakers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i think "today is the tomorrow and yesterday i feared" is "today is the tomorrow that yesterday i feared". i love that line. :) | |
| Regina Spektor – Hotel Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this is kind of random, but I looked up in a dream dictionary what ocra whales mean in dreams and they mean distrust and shows the "dreamer is not sure of the motives of his/her protector."i just thought that was interesting in relation to the rest of the song. | |
| Maria Taylor – Xanax Lyrics | 18 years ago |
^ i hear that too. this song is really amazing, i agree with the meanings... just noticing your fears and letting go of them. |
| Metro Station – Now That We're Done Lyrics | 18 years ago |
aliexis, that makes a lot of sense. i think it's told from her point of view, except this part is sort of his point: "now i see you with him it was nothing like i thought it'd be i'll break down for you" this song is so good... i love how it's so sad, but at the same time it's so catchy. |
| The Color Fred – Complaintor Lyrics | 18 years ago |
freakyblondey, that just sort of reminded me that i read somewhere that being in a band is sort of like being married to your bandmates (i think fred or someone from tbs might have said it). and i think you're right, about him being angry at the time he wrote the song and not wanting to edit it. is it just me or is the music/guitar part near the end sound sort of like the same part near the end of Cute Without the 'E' (right before "hoping for the best...")? |
| The Color Fred – If I Surrender Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I see what you mean about "Choke" seeming to be not being as much related to Fred leaving TBS, but I still think that's what the song is about. :\ It fits so well. especially this line: "They took from you all they could get". |
| The Color Fred – Complaintor Lyrics | 18 years ago |
it's def. about adam/his experience with tbs and it's really sad. and i think adam wrote a journal entry with the title of it because he was mad about it. if you read interviews with fred, you can see that it's about him being in tbs. he wanted to be honest and not edit his songs. i'm not sure what the line about the marriage is about though and if it's referring to his own marriage. |
| Metro Station – Kelsey Lyrics | 18 years ago |
So I just read an interview with the person who plays keyboards in Metro Station and he said this song was written by Mason about a girl named Chelsea. And Mason thought it was too personal to play as a Metro Station song, so they changed the name to Kelsey. Good song. |
| The Color Fred – Get Out Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is what tbsunion.com/thecolorfred has posted. It sounds right: I woke up to a drive-thru Had to hitch a ride to get myself feed It was late but I know it’s never to late to call you You’re a good friend with a bad tendency to get in over your head Don’t you, don’t you fall asleep (Gonna get us both killed, driving late to Coatesville) I swear I’ll make it back some day I swear I’ll make it back Get out, get out, get out You’re not driving Get out, get out, get out You’re not driving Get out, get out, get out You’re not driving Get out, get out I woke up on a greyhound to a new town Then again I was here a month ago It was your birthday It fell on a Friday And I should’ve been there For that I’m sorry Reguardless Don’t you, don’t you fall asleep (Gonna get us both killed, driving late to Coatesville) I swear I’ll make it back some day Someday Get out, get out, get out You’re not driving Get out, get out, get out You’re not driving Get out, get out, get out You’re not driving Get out, get out We hit the ice Just before the telephone pole We hit the brakes But there was no escape We hit the ice And I see a car in your future They stitch and they sew and they suit you But this day will scar Right now we know how lucky we are Don’t you fall asleep (We know how lucky we are) Don’t you fall asleep (I swear I’ll make it back) Get out, get out Get out, get out I swear I’ll make it back some day (get out, get out) I swear I’ll make it back some day (get out, get out) I swear I’ll make it back some day (get out, get out) I swear I’ll make it back (get out, get out) Get out, get out, Get out, you’re not driving Get out, get out No, not in the state you’re in Get out, get out Get out, you’re not driving Get out, get out, get out, get out, get out This song is really catchy. |
| Maria Taylor – Song Beneath the Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Emancipation... Even after reading that, I think it can still be sort of deep because in the lyrics she says there's a "song beneath the song", meaning even though it's not a love song, you have to look deeper to find what she's really trying to say. It might seem like a love song, but it's really more complicated than that and you have to look for the song beneath the song. Anyway, I love this song. It's so simple and I love her voice in it. | |
| Stars – The Night Starts Here Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is so good. I love the line "forget your name, forget your fear". | |
| Mae – Telescopes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song. | |
| Dashboard Confessional – A Year In The Past, Forever In The Future Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is a cover on the CD (sold only at shows, but you can look online for it) called "Wire Tapes" that came out 10/3, I think. It's a bunch of cover songs Chris recorded. The original is by a band called Grade. Dashboard got me in to Grade...they are both amazing. This is one of my favorite songs by Grade and I'm so glad Chris covered it. He sounds great on it. :) | |
| Dashboard Confessional – Keep Watch For The Mines Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i thought that same thing about it being about the same person. this may not be what it's about at all, but i had the thought it could be like, she recognized the song was about her and she told people lies about their relationship. it's prob not about that, but it's an idea. i think that happened with pete wentz or something, haha, so i kind of thought of that. it's a good song though, i love the ending the best. | |
| The Rocket Summer – A Song Is Not A Business Plan Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"Do you even know what you're even saying? Or are you just saying it cause someone else said it?" i love it, so true... |
| The Honorary Title – Accident Prone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| lovely song. i love the repetition of "leave with me". | |
| The Honorary Title – Soft, Pale, and Pure Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| pretty song. | |
| The Honorary Title – Stay Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| his description makes sense, but i can't figure out exactly how the lyrics relate. i see it could be from the person who is less emotionally invested's point of view ("stay away from me"), but i can kind of see it kind of more from the other person's view ..who is more emotionally invested (saying to the person, "if you're using me, do it slowly" and saying "make it last" because they want the person to feel the same way.) i also kind of feel like the "i can't dance less it's slow or sad, to a song that’s far less obvious" is from the pov of someone less emotionally involved because they are saying they don't want to make it really obvious. idk though. | |
| Dntel – Don't Get Your Hopes Up Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| where can i get this song? | |
| Mae – Last Transmission II Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i love this song. the line "and out of nothing comes this thing we share" kind of talks about the whole singularity idea of the album, how they're saying the universe just sort of formed from one thing. |
| Mae – On Top Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"there's chance that you're all I have" This song might be my favorite off the new album. |
| Eisley – Just Like We Do Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this song is amazing. i heard it on their myspace before i even knew who they were and it's still one of my favorites by them. i think i can relate. and i think it's just talking about how other people are in love too and they know what they're going through... the good parts and hard parts about being in love with someone. :) | |
| Dashboard Confessional – Remember to Breathe (Live/Extended version) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
*Woe - Say Anything And there's two lines before that, I'm not sure where those are from but I'm pretty sure he changed the name to "Chris".. |
| Dashboard Confessional – Remember to Breathe (Live/Extended version) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I have this live version and it's so amazing... it sounds amazing live. I love how he mixes covers in with his songs. In this order, here are the songs: Remember to Breathe - Dashboard Confessional The Moon is Down - Further Seems Forever (Chris's older band) Heaven Here - Dashboard Confessional I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light - Brand New (he changes the last line from "while I sing" to "while I sing Jesse's songs") Say Anything - Woe Ahh, I love all these bands he sings. |
| Eisley – Invasion Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| to me, this song reminds me of somebody who tries to take control of you (not necessarily an alien..), but like in a relationship where you feel powerless and they are sort of destructing your life. i don't know, but it made sense to me when i first heard it. | |
| Mae – Sometime I Can't Make It Alone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| ooh, does the title remind anyone of the U2 song "Sometimes I Can't Make it On My Own"? | |
| Mae – Sometime I Can't Make It Alone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Same here. This song is really good. Not their best, but it's still really catchy and good and I like the lyrics. | |
| Say Anything – Admit It!!! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Hmm, actually correction - it's La Vie Boheme. | |
| Say Anything – Admit It!!! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
To the two people who mentioned Rent, I def. hear it too. It reminded me of "La Vi Boheme" the first time I heard it. The vibe is similiar (though it's a different message) and the way the lyrics are written are similiar too. I wonder if he did this on purpose: http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=129889 Amazing and brilliant song though. |
| Tegan and Sara – Knife Going In Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I agree, it's about being hurt... and I think it fits with "The Con". Some people thought "The Con" was about cheating and if that was right, the "Knife Going In" could be after that, how she feels hurt and betrayed. | |
| Taking Back Sunday – Summer Stars Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this song is really good. the lyrics aren't as good as tbs's more recent, but they are very nice and relateable. i thought it sounded like jesse's vocals in the background, i'm glad to know i was right. i listened to this song about two years ago and i just listened to it again and it really has this summer type vibe that makes you think about your past relationships in summer. it doesn't sound like tbs, but it's still really good.. i'm glad i found this song. | |
| Straylight Run – I Don't Have The Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song is so good... i don't know what it's about though. it seems to be about government with the reference to "pigs" and them using "i don't have the time" as an excuse to not change a problem, but idk. but i'd recommend picking this up (or trying to find it online) if you haven't heard it. |
