Stay Away

I doubt anyone will se this, but I just wanted to share my 2 cents. This song has always been special to me because it’s a lot of potential and actual conversations that I’ve had with my self and what I’d expect my partner to have with me. Lines like, “The speed at which we move blends so well, It's too soon” “You using me, do it slowly. Make it last until I have to go” and “Trust me when I say just a few more weeks. Don’t move” Really communicate my fear of commitment and abandonment. Where I will subconsciously and eventually leave you before you even get the slightest chance to leave me first.

And lines like, “ Separate yourself from what compels you to relinquish us. Push your weight on to me, entirely. Stay away from me, stay away from me now. Unless you gonna see, less you gonna see me out” Words I’d expect my partner to say to me, being aware of my problems.

And another one I’d say to myself, “ Resist temptation, or do you see fit, just choose” Which goes both ways…

eh, i think it's more of that he's sick of playing games.

to me, that's saying that i want you all the time or i don't want you at all.

I was just on The Honorary Title's site and Jarrod Gorbel wrote what "Stay Away" is about:

“about the romantic dynamic between two individuals when one person has more emotionally invested than the other,”

It's someone speaking to a love interest, basically saying he isn't ready to be in a relationship yet and he needs time to think. He is literally saying, "Stay away from me" until I am ready to be with you. He also gives the person he is talking to a choice, you can be faithful and wait for me to figure things out ("resist temptation"), or you can go ahead and see other people and move on. He is essentially telling the person he is not in the right state of mind right now to be with them, at this time he just can't do it, for whatever reason.

He starts off saying that everything happened so fast between him and a girl and their relationship is moving too quickly. She wants to end it and he's begging her to just stay with him. Even if she is just using him, he's at the point where any intimacy with her is enough. We have all been there. You will let a person use you just for those few moments you have with them. It's one of the most degrading, painful experiences and that's why i think this song is so meaningful. He let's her walk all over him because he just wants those few moments together. Even though he knows that the whole situation is wrong and he's tormented inside over it, he doesn't have the strength to walk away. Which is why he tells her to be the one to stay away.

mmm so relatable. the only thing you can do is tell the person to get out of your life because seeing him is too hard. 'out of sight, out of mind' and time are usually the only things that can heal a heart.

Well I kinda agree with all these but I feel like this song isn't really about taking things slow. I feel like the guy who is singing is projecting all his pain about how his heart is breaking. He clearly loves this girl and is emotionally invested in the relationship but he knows that she does not feel the same way. Although it's obviously not specific she's either just playing with him and they both know it or maybe he told her how he feels and she rejected it or wants to take it slow or she just doesn't care and now he sees that she doesn't really want the same kind of relationship as he does. I feel like he's kind of conflicted because he knows it's not good for him but he wants to be with her at the same time. 'Your using me do it slowly make it last until I have to go' he's almost letting her as he knows that this will be the last chance of remotely being with her as after he says 'stay away from me' meaning that as hard as it is for him he can't stand the pain of the heartbreak and needs to stop seeing her. You can also hear the build up during the song. At the start it's slow and low almost like he's telling her this but half heartedly because he still wants to be close to her and is giving in but during the song it becomes stronger and then he says it louder because his emotions are coming out and he keeps repeating it because it can only go on for so long. He's more sure of his need for her to stay away at the end and in the last line he's just defeated and tired of everything is just done with it.

I love this song and can really relate. Take it from someone who knows, it sucks to be in that sort of position where you're more emotionally invested than the other person. I especially like the lines "You're using me, do it slowly. Make it last until I have to go" I mean I could be way off here, but, to me, those lines are saying "I'm not stupid, I know you don't feel the same and I'm just here so you can use me, but I do care and I don't want it to end." Again, I could be way off though.

I could go and try to find some deep life meaning or philosophy, but I think it is pretty simple and clear. For this moment in time, just stay away. No one wants to deal with this person, a broken relationship (family, romantic, or friend)...fed up, back off, stay away.

The first line made me think of religion. People in your family who truly believe what they do and practice it on a daily basis sometimes try to push that onto you. It's like, just give me this time to sin and live so I can learn, but I'll come to this eventually ("trust me when i say just a few more weeks"). And then it's finally like okay if you can't understand, stay away from me while I have to do this. Stay away now but not forever.
