Say Hi – Dersmormos Lyrics 19 years ago
the fourth and fifth paragraphs make me smile every time. especially how he sounds out and stresses every syllable in "needless to say i ain't gonna get none".

Mineral – February Lyrics 19 years ago
this song has always been about forgiveness, to me. forgiveness, and like startoutyoung said, "the hard heart finally being opened"; like a new awakening after being forgiven. like love. not necessarily anything at all having to do with christianity, though. favorite line "and i think i finally know what they mean when they talk about joy". and YEAH the outro could be a song in it's own, i think: it's that good.

i totally agree with Ghost33.

The Dismemberment Plan – Gyroscope Lyrics 19 years ago
I always hear that, too, Biscuits. And I agree, Quonset; I love how a girl is first described, then a guy, then all of us--and it's so true. Happiness so often seems like hard work.

Yo La Tengo – Center of Gravity Lyrics 19 years ago
this song is the(e) ultimate cutesy, makes-you-smile-even-when-you're-home-alone love song. "Basic geometry: two halves of a circle, you and me", indeed-y!

Blonde Redhead – Le Chanson De Slogan (Gainsbourg Jewish Music) Lyrics 19 years ago
i love how this song's intro and outro, and how the meaning of the song isn't exactly it seems to be.

The translation (with my bad french and wordreference.com) is:

You are weak, you are dishonest, you are insane
You are cold, you are false, you were insane
Evelyne please, Evelyne don't say that
Evelyne you loved me, believe me

You are vile, you are weak, you are vain
You are old, you are empty, you are nothing
Evelyne you are unfair, Evelyne you are wrong
Evelyne you see you still love me

Blonde Redhead – For The Damaged Lyrics 19 years ago
This is one of my favorite Blonde Redhead songs. i agree, the Coda is so so beautiful. i love how it continues this song right after the loud, angsty "Mother"; it's all so unexpected in its intensity. And i agree: "Sundays will never change, they keep on coming/you'll be a freak, and i'll keep you company" are such lovely lyrics. it's so much better than saying that things WILL change; acceptance is truly the first step.

The Apples in Stereo – Avril en Mai Lyrics 19 years ago
This song has to be one of the catchiest French songs sung in an overly strong American accent that doesn't sound anything close to bad ;]. Anyway, the translation from dictionary.com along w/mine is:

I sit down, naked by the ground
in water and dirt.
It is time for rain,
it saw semi-sparkling beads on its sleeve,
the rain was soft.

April so beautiful
April so cruel
April my dear, I had forgotten the winter
April so beautiful
April so cruel
April my dear, was the month for my liking

For tomorrow against its
word for driving back,
the sun comes before.
I put an important melody,
I have the sun that rereads.

April so beautiful
April so cruel
April my dear, I had forgotten the winter
April so beautiful
April so cruel
April my dear, was the month for my liking.

The Sea and Cake – The Fawn Lyrics 19 years ago
i've never been quite sure what this song is about, but i've always liked to believe that it's about chance; like those moments in time when you and another forget each other's pasts and connect spontaneously with no preconceived opinions. i'd like to believe, at least.

which reminds me, this song was used in the short film/documentary "Have You Seen This Man?" in which the main theme was connection (i'd also like to believe ;D)

Elliott Smith – Pitseleh Lyrics 19 years ago
Thanks: colossal_youth, hypnodeeper, allane, delial, texamexican.

you know when you listen to a song and you have to put it on repeat and keep listening and listening and just FEEL? -- while at the same time not knowing exactly what the song means, but knowing that somehow, the song understands?

yeah, that's it. this song is so terribly beautiful. it shreds and mends all the same.
