Awsome song (although not there best). I think this song is about the conflict inside before seeling out. Ill lay me down Tonight Much further down ~this could be interpreted as feeling low (as in upset with onesself) because of whut you are planning on doing (selling out)~ Swim In The Calm Tonight The art does drown ~not sure aboutt he first line, but the second could be like your killing the art (it is drowning) because you are using somethignt hat is suposed to be about self expression and beauty (or something liekt hat, lol) to make money~ The chourus is a tuffy but I think it may mean something like the idea of selling out followes him as only a small idea in his mind but it is just beggin him to go for it (sell out). So "The whitest lace of light just begs to be imbured" means this small idea is just egging to imbrue itself with his art. The whut swallows whole part is meaning that the idea is consuming him. The second part of the chorus...maybe he feels this is where all mucisians with tallent end up as fate and it is where he belongs as well...but he also feels like everyhting he has accomplished up to that point is being erased. I know exactly whut this song means. I know exactly how Chris felt when he wrote this song. My girlfriend just broke up with me....I still love her and I cant sleep at night because all I can think about is being next to her. She is running around gettign over the break up and I wana think that she is just as unhappy as me but in my mind I know she isint. I also make believe she is trying to rub in the fact that she is over me when she is not.
