I left my girl back home
I don't love her no more
And she'll never fucking know that
These fucking eyes that I'm staring at
Let me see that ass
Look at all this cash
And I emptied out my cards too
Now I'm fucking leaning on that

Bring your love, baby, I could bring my shame
Bring the drugs, baby, I could bring my pain
I got my heart right here
I got my scars right here
Bring the cups, baby, I could bring the drank
Bring your body, baby, I could bring you fame
And that's my motherfucking words too
Just let me motherfucking love you

Listen, ma, I'll give you all I got
Get me off of this, I need confidence in myself
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ohh, yeah, ohh
Listen, ma, I'll give you all of me
Give me all of it, I need all of it to myself
Whoa-whoa, whoa
So tell me you love me
(Only for tonight, only for the night)
Even though you don't love me
(Oh-whoa, oh-whoa)
Just tell me you love me
(I'll give you what I need) Ohh-yeah
(I'll give you all of me)
Even though you don't love me
(Oh-whoa) Yeah, yeah
(Oh-whoa) Yeah, yeah

Uh, let me see you dance
I love to watch you dance
Take you down another level
And get you dancing with the Devil
Take a shot of this
But I'm warning you
I'm on that shit that you can't smell, baby
So, put down your perfume

Bring your love, baby, I could bring my shame
Bring the drugs, baby, I could bring my pain
Oh, I got my heart right here
Oh, I got my scars right here
Bring the cups, baby, I could bring the drank
Bring your body, baby, I could bring you fame
And that's my motherfucking words too, ayy
So let me motherfucking love you

Listen, ma, I'll give you all I got
Get me off of this (off of this), I need confidence (confidence) in myself
Ohh, oh, ayy, ayy, ayy
Listen, ma, I'll give you all of me (ooh)
Give me all of it, I need all of it to myself
I need all of it, so tell me you love me, yeah
(Only for tonight) Ohh
(Only for the night)
Even though you don't love me, yeah
(Oh-whoa) Ohh
(Oh-whoa)
Just tell me you love me
(I'll give you what I need) Ohh-oh
(I'll give you all of me)
Even though you don't love me, ohh, yeah
(Oh-whoa, oh-whoa) Ohh

It's about drugs. The second verse is all about getting her high with him on dope. Take a shot of this, I'm on that shit you can't smell -- dancing with the devil, take you DOWN. All are in reference to heroin. This song is just simply a description of the insecurity and pain you feel while addicted to a hard drug, especially one like heroin or Oxycontin. This isn't about loving another person, so much as loving yourself --- judging from what I know of addicts, he can't love the girl 'cause he's messed up all the time. You can't love anyone when you love drugs, thus throwing himself into a one night stand to make him feel good about yourself, because the only relationship that's a safe relationship is one that doesn't last when you're getting high. Everyone who actually cares about you will call you on your addiction, thus making you feel like crap about yourself.

    Song Meaning

I figured I would help elaborate. For example the line "im on that shit that you ant smell baby so put down the perfume" right before this he says " take a shot of this.. Etc" what he's talking about here is dope. That shit that you ant smell is heroin. Gets you fucked up and no one knows that's why there are so many closet opiate addicts. My favorite line in this song is "listen ma I'll give you all I got get me off of this I need confidence in myself" I take from this a desire to not want to use anymore and how hard it is to quit. The parts about the relationship are good and he does find someone else ... And her name is heroin.

It's about addiction (sexual and/or drugs), self hate, lack of self esteem and inability to cope with the day to day challenges this world deals everyone on an everyday basis. This song is about tragedy and being down on your life in general. Using others (the prostitute - that aint no stripper), drugs and all. The fame part is the power trip that every man - be he a politician or not - seams to believe he possesses over women and objects ... Giving money for sex is a power trip. And the fact that the character is a politician just is a way for the director to portray that power in the video.

This is a video portrayal of inner pain manifesting itself in drugs and sex. Remember Elliot Spitzer? Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski?

Many men have secret lives. I'd say about 75% of them. Anywhere from mild - like riding a motor bike or taking ballet on weekends - to dressing up in a wig and mini skirt, painting their nails or using sex and prostitutes to 'ease' their daily frustrations or yes, pain.

The lyrics are intense and in your face. Make no mistake about it, this song is about addiction - pure inner pain.

    My Interpretation

He's leaving his life for the weekend....forgetting his girl @ home, shutting out the fact that he loves her...because in this weekend he's in love with the moment, which is the stripper/prostitute and drugs/drinks before him. This is what matters. He's having a drug fueled weekend with this woman...hard drugs (no weed...he's on that shit that you can't smell...so put down your perfume). He wants to numb his guilt, his emotions, his shame by the drugs and by this woman...he wants to feel loved, even though he knows it's not real,....he just needs it for this moment. It's a misery loves company concept...he can come here and expose his demons, put them on the table and still feel love (although not genuine) with no judgement. It's his refuge.

He just ended it with his girl and to help relieve himself of the pain he is hooking up with this girl (stripper maybe?) "Even though you don't love me Just tell me you love me"

He is still hurting but wants to make it all go away. "Bring the drugs baby, I can bring my pain. I got my heart right here, I got my scars right here"

I'm pretty sure he's talking about a stripper. Hence leaving his girl at home. Spending the money and emptying his card. I love to watch you dance. But most lee the "I need you to myself," line. I guess it's open to interpretation, but that's what I'm seeing.

    My Interpretation

I'd say this is the most vulnerable song on the album and perhaps the only one giving some sort of explanation as to the narrator's behaviour.

There's a shift from the "I got what you need" "I'll give you what I need" in the other songs to suddenly "I'll give you what I need", the line "I need confidence in myself" goes further along the same line and the whole "So tell me you love me, Even though you don't love me, Just tell me you love me" further adds to the point. I reckon this song suggests that his entire infidelity and sex seeking is mostly based around needing confidence and a need to feel loved.

"tell me you love me, even though you don't love me"

There's a lot of obvious drug references in this song and partying possibly being with a stripper ("let me see that ass, look at all this cash" and "I love to watch you dance".)

My take on it, is this guy met a stripper after he broke it off with his girl and is using it as an opportunity to be comforted by her because he's lonely. He knows that this girl doesn't care about him and he's not just paying her to dance for him but he also wants to feel a human connection. He wants to feel loved whether it be real or fake.

    My Interpretation

Well, I think the song is basically him lusting after this woman he met.

"I left my girl back home I don't love her no more And she'll never f***ing know that"

He either broke up with his girlfriend because he fell out of love with her, or maybe he just felt this connection with this new girl and forgot about his actual girlfriend. This girl is probably some kind of golddigger, stripper or prostitute. But he's so into her that he doesn't really care. Just forging any kind of connection at all, even if it is fake, is enough for him. Lines like "Listen ma I'll give you all I got, get me off of this, I need confidence in myself" also give an indication of this. For some reason he thinks maybe this girl can help him feel better about himself. He's so desperate for this girl that he's willing to empty out all his cards and give all of his money just to be with her because I think he thinks that being with her would make him feel better about himself, even if only for a moment.

"Bring your love baby I could bring my shame Bring the drugs baby I could bring my pain"

I think The Weeknd has some kind of insecurity issue, which is why he often turns to drugs as you can tell by the references in his songs, this one included. When he first came out, he was very keen about not showing his face in photos. There isn't too much known about him even now and I think it's because he's insecure.

There's so much more I can say about him just because I feel like his music and lyrics say so much about him and the little there actually IS on him gives me a clear indication of the kind of person this guy actually is. But of course, this is all just my interpretation of this song and him as an artist. Beautiful song though. Can't get it out of my head.

    My Interpretation

This song is all about addiction. Heroine more specifically. The love he is referencing is more than likely "golden girl." He needs it to feel in control, and he needs to be high to do it. The beginning of the song says "I left my girl back home, cause I dont love her no more." I think he left his heroine, he doesnt want to do it so he leaves it, but the temptation is too much. When he says "Listen ma I'll give you all I got Get me off of this (Off of this) I need confidence in myself (Confidence) Listen ma I'll give you all of me Give me all of it I need all of it to myself (I need all of it)"
I believe this is his inner struggle with addiction. He wants off of this but this is what he feels he needs to be able to function. He needs it all the time, but at the same time struggles with the shame and addiction. He tries so hard to clean himself up, but will always succumb to finding more to feed the monster growing within.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
