In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Now that it’s all said and done
I can’t believe you were the one
To build me up and tear me down
Like an old abandoned house
What you said when you left
Just left me cold and out of breath
I felt as if I was in way to deep
Guess I let you get the best of me
Well I never saw it coming
I should have started running
A long, long time ago
And I never thought I’d doubt you
I’m better off without you
More than you, more than you know
I’m slowly getting closure
I guess it’s really over
I’m finally gettin’ better
Now I’m picking up the pieces
From spending all of these years
Putting my heart back together
‘Cause the day I thought I’d never get through
I got over you
You took a hammer to these walls
Dragged the memories down the hall
Packed your bags and walked away
There was nothing I could say,
And when you slammed the front door shut
A lot of other’s opened up
So did my eyes so I could see
That you never were the best for me
Well I never saw it coming
I should have started running
A long, long time ago
And I never thought I’d doubt you
I’m better off without you
More than you, more than you know
I’m slowly getting closure
I guess it’s really over
I’m finally getting’ better
Now I’m picking up the pieces
From spending all of these years
Putting my heart back together
‘Cause the day I thought I’d never get through
I got over you
I never saw it coming
I should have started running
A long, long time agooo
And I never thought I’d doubt you
I’m better off without you
And I never saw it coming
I should have started running
I’m finally getting better
Now I’m picking up the pieces
From spending all of these years
Putting my heart back together
And I got over you
And I got over you
And I got over you
The day I thought I’d never get through
I got over you…
I can’t believe you were the one
To build me up and tear me down
Like an old abandoned house

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Yo La Tengo
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Punchline

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
wow. this song is amazing. it got me over my ex boyfriend. who really WAS NOT worth it. i know i can do better. Chris Daughtry is going to be great!!!
Loving thiss.
I just had a hard breakup with my girlfriend, It was so sudden and I don't think I can forget her, but this song rocks and it's basically all about how I feel right now. Great song, and I'm glad he didn't win American idol because although he was my favorite, he would have never made this record if he won.
It's an amazing alleviation song, something to help you get over your ex-or to tell everybody that you're finally over him/her. I love this song and as soon as I heard it, I put it straight on my myspace (just so I could finally tell everybody that I was done with the aftermath, that I was finally over the ex and finally getting better-and aiming to stay that way.)
As for the meaning of the song, it's self-explanatory really (:
Amazing.....amazingly amazing.
Yeah and I bet you degenerates like evanescene oh and let me guess Nickelback its all crap
I LOVE this song! but does anyone understand the video?! the girl going to group..?! i dunno..didn't make sense to me
the video to me explains the song better than the actual lyrics. idk. but this song reminds me of my ex boyfriend. its kind of on his side because I just left him there a lot of times. I guess he finally realized tht he can do better than me and he deserves better than me. and he has been gone for a couple months now and has fallen inlove all over again. it just hurts to see all of this flashing before my eyes.
i'm ashamed to admit, since he's an american idol contestant and i am an indie snob - but i really like this song. so powerful, sends shivers down my spine.
"I felt as if I was in way to deep Guess I let you get the best of me"
I'm pretty sure it's
"I fell too far, as in way too deep"
Just sayin'. Great song!
