Okay I'm boring you, I'm warning you tonight
Is not the night for fights, lies white or otherwise
My mood isn't better yet sober and humorless
If you can't handle this, roll off the mattress

I'm trying to let you know that your not just another
When you're under the covers, I'm under your thumb
And your the finest of specimens, leaving me breathless
Reeling and restless, putting me to the test

Turn the light off, leave me where I lay
Bring the night on, not another day
Turn the light off, leave me where I lay
Bring the night on, not another day

Okay I'm lying when I'm telling you you're right
But you don't like the truth served straight or otherwise
And I'm an insomniac, tossing and turning
And getting repetitive swallow a sedative

I'm trying to let you know that your not just another
When you're under the covers, I'm under your thumb
And your the finest of specimens, leaving me breathless
Reeling and restless, putting me to the test

Turn the light off, leave me where I lay
Bring the night on, not another day
Turn the light off, leave me where I lay
Bring the night on, not another day

Not another day, not another day
Not another day, not another day
Not another day, not another day

Okay I'm boring you, I'm warning you tonight
Is not the night for fights, lies white or otherwise
My mood isn't better yet sober and humorless
If you can't handle this, great, roll off the mattress

Turn the light off, leave me where I lay
Bring the night on, not another day
Turn the light off, leave me where I lay
Bring the night on, not another
Not another, not another day

Not another day, not another day
Not another day, [Incomprehensible]

When I hear this song, I envision a couple fighting. She's picking a fight, and he's loves her dearly, but he's becoming tired trying to tell her that over and over. She's putting him "to the test," and he's trying to tell her that she's "not just another," but he's getting so sick of it. His mood "isnt better yet, sober and humorless," and he's just kindof given up. He's just saying "turn the light off, leave me where I lay" not wanting to go through another day of fighting.

I think he is arguing with a girl who doesn't wanna listen to their fact that their relationship is failing("but you don't like the truth served straight or otherwise.") so he saying too bad heres the truth ("Is not the night for fights, lies white or otherwise")and i still love you(I'm trying to let you know that your not just another"). and i agree with it sounding like "Tossing and turning that, is getting repetative, swallow a sedative."

    My Interpretation

Okay, I could be totally wrong, but here's what I think. I think it's about a couple who have a lot of problems, but it's about how at night, having sex, it really defines the relationship and how he feels about her. He's saying they argue during the day, "I'm warning you tonight is not the night for fights, lies white or otherwise. My mood isn't better yet, sober and humorless." This is all he feels like he's getting from being with her, but at the same time, "I'm trying to let you know, you're not just another," She's not like any other girl, "You're under the covers, I'm under your thumb." When they're together like that, she's the only one, and he can't say no to her. But she's argumentative and it's difficult, "Okay I'm lying when I'm telling you you're right, but you don't like the truth served straight or otherwise." So, he's just trying to tell her "You're the finest of specimens," but the truth is, it's a really messed up relationship with lots of arguing.

Okay, wow that was long. I'ma shut up now.

Being under someone's thumb means that they have some kind of control or power over you.

To me, it's about not wanting someone to leave you, and doing whatever it takes and taking whatever abuse just to get them to stay.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
