Baby, I get so scared inside and I don't really understand
Is it love that's on my mind or is it fantasy?
Heaven is in the palm of my hand and it's waiting here for you
What am I supposed to do with a childhood tragedy?

If I close my eyes forever, will it all remain unchanged?
If I close my eyes forever, will it all remain the same?

Sometimes it's hard to hold on, so hard to hold on to my dreams
It isn't always what it seems when you're face to face with me
You're like a dagger, and stick me in the heart
And taste the blood from my blade
And when we sleep, would you shelter me in your warm and darkend grave?

If I close my eyes forever, will it all remain unchanged?
If I close my eyes forever, will it all remain the same?

Will you ever take me? No I just can't take the pain
Would you ever trust me? No I'll never feel the same

I know I've been so hard on you, I know I've told you lies
If I could have just one more wish, I'd wipe the cobwebs from my eyes

If I close my eyes forever, will it all remain unchanged?
If I close my eyes forever, will it all remain the same?

    My Interpretation

(Firstly, I interpret this song as a truthful, inner-voice discussion between lovers or would-be lovers.)

(Lita) Baby, I get so scared inside and I don't really understand Is it love that's on my mind or is it fantasy? (Her confession later in the song of lying to him is symptomatic here. She is fearful and unable to tell what is truth and what is fiction in her own mind/heart.) (Ozzy) Heaven, is in the palm of my hand, and it's waiting here for you What am I supposed to do with a childhood tragedy? (It is not exactly clear who had the childhood tragedy, but because he sings the chorus immediately following this question, asking how to cope, it implies that it is her problem with which he is unfamiliar or a problem that has been in his way for his whole life. )

CHORUS: (Ozzy) If I close my eyes forever Will it all remain unchanged? If I close my eyes forever Will it all remain the same? ( The chorus is the main lyric that makes many people believe the song talks about suicide. What if "close my eyes forever" is a metaphor for ignoring or forgiving? Then the song makes sense as a pair of lovers hashing out their issues.)

(Ozzy) Sometimes it's hard to hold on, so hard to hold on to my dreams. It isn't always what it seems when you're face to face with me. ( The dreams he has for them don't seem to be working in the face of reality. He acknowledges they both have expectations of their relationship that are not being met in the other person.)

(Lita) And like a dagger You stick me in the heart And taste the blood from my blade And when we sleep would you shelter me in your warm and darkened grave? ( She tells him "You hurt me and seems to me it is on purpose. You may be affectionate, but your heart is dark.")

    CHORUS (Lita)

(Lita) Will you ever take me? (Ozzy) No, I just can't take the pain (Lita) But would you ever trust me? (Ozzy) No, I'll never feel the same....OOh... ( She asks if he could ever accept/love her. He says no. This may refer back to the "childhood tragedy." Whatever the tragedy is, one or both of them seems unable or unwilling to resolve it.)

(Lita) I know I've been so hard on you I know I've told you lies If I could have just one more wish I'd wipe the cobwebs from my eyes ( She regrets her web of lies which she implies has blinded her from the truth and/or kept her from seeing his struggles. She is willing to give up her selfishness.)

    CHORUS: (Lita)

(Ozzy) Close your eyes Close your eyes You gotta close your eyes for me (For us to make this work, you have to forgive ...)

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
