Jerry Cantrell – Locked On Lyrics

Not every song dealing with drugs by Alice or Jerry is about Layne. This one, however, easily could be. The way that needles are mentioned leads me to that conclusion. Unfortunately, Layne loved to do heroin until it killed him.
RIP Layne |

Alice in Chains – All Secrets Known Lyrics
| 13 years ago

I agree definitely that this song is about the pain and anguish associated with moving on and creating new music under the moniker Alice in Chains with a different singer. Listening to the song, you can really feel how much all of the guys are hurting. When the lyrics say "Like just before we die..." I believe is a way of saying that the band died. Obviously, they are back-but EVEN the guys felt at first that they were dead musically-at least in my opinion. |

I had never heard that quote by Layne. It makes a ton of sense though-I listen to AIC all the time and definitely understand enough that I know that they're telling me not to do drugs! |

My belief is that Jerry is completely clean now where drugs are concerned. I could easily be wrong-he is a rock god after all. |

When I was a Senior in HS- I did a project in which I had to define each term in this song. I don't remember all of it-but this song will always hold a special place in my heart. |

Jerry Cantrell – Between Lyrics

The line where Jerry refers to the monkey man:
Then back home to Seattle
Fed the monkey man
I proceed to throw up all over my hand
Well it ain't so bad
I will never be able to listen to in the same way again.
At least two people told me that it sounds like Jerry is saying that he is wacking off and cumming all over his hand. That will always come into my mind-LOL |

Alice in Chains – Rain When I Die Lyrics
|
Imy opinion-for whatever it's worth-I believe that the 'she' in the song is a personification of death in general. I think that Jerry and Layne each felt that dying was a dismal event and therefore was easily thought of as rain. The odd thing that almost is morbid to think about is that since Layne died in Seattle-it more than likely was raining when he died. |

Alice in Chains – Brother Lyrics

Just out of curiosity-I looked up the many slang terms for HEROIN and was shocked to realize that 'brother' is one of them. I don't really believe that this song is about heroin, but it's pretty clear that a lot of Alice songs are, so it's just a neat little tid-bit. |

I certainly feel like I am in my very own private hell. The only thing is that while I am used to my little cell-I still HATE it and cannot exuse myself. |

I have to ask a question- Does anybody know which point of view this song is told from? I know about Jerr breaking up with a girl he really loved was the inspiratiion for this tune and I just have to wonder if it was written as if the girl is saying all of this. |

Alice in Chains – Black Gives Way To Blue Lyrics

I saw an interview with Sean and Jerry on Youtube where Sean said that Black Gives Way to Blue represents being in a very dismal place and then being able to see a little bit of light. It makes sense to me-when you see light and the sky is clear it is also usually blue. |

Jerry Cantrell – She Was My Girl Lyrics

I used to hate this song. I just thought, because of the title that it was only a love song. I knew that Jerry was trying to distance himself from his work with Alice somewhat but I just really did not believe that he shoud be sounding like a love sick teenager. Then I actually listened to it! Now I love it! |

The way I understand it, Jerry got sick as a dog when the guys finally recorded this song, lyrics and all. Apparently he was having crazy migraines and saw lots of doctors. He even had a spinal tap (no fun) and a few cat scans. Even after all of these tests-no one could figure out what was wrong with him. This particular song was just hard as hell for Jerry. |

When I first saw this song title on the track listing of the album, I thought it was a crazy idea for a song-Then I heard it and was very pleasantly surprised. This song means a lot to me because I literally have been known to get lost when I've got nowhere to go. I also tend to be angry with myself and blame others. I don't really know why-I guess on some level it seems easier. |

I really am not certain because I suck at song meanings, but to me it sounds like he really knows what he wants, yet does not take action to get it. Hopefully that helps a little. |

Personally, I don't really thinkk the reason for the break up is imprtant. To me, the point seems to be that Jerry did in fact break up with someone he really loved and now is tortured with regret. |

Alice in Chains – Rooster Lyrics

I heard that Jerry's dad never talked about the war at all with Jerry- that makes me jealous because my father was also a vietnam vet and it's prettyy much all he ever talks about
I've also heard that Jerry Sr is a red head and had been given the nickname Rooster by his grandpa when he was a kid. I'm not sure about whether the 191 Airborne were called roosters in Vietnam or not. |

Although there is no reference to a coffee table in the lyrics, I can still definitely believe that this song is about that fight, To me-the music and the lyrics just reak of anger and retaliation. |

This song is a great song, but does not mean much to me because of my own brother. I think more just about friends in general. Too many people forget or just don't realizw that friendship is a two way street. |

I could be wrong, but I think that Jerry keeps saying 'devil by my side' in the song because he is a 'he' and he often feels as if he does have a devil by his side! |

I give my husband a hard time all the time because he's right so often that this song means a lot to me. One day while I was still in college, I was listening to this song on the CD of Boggy Depot and the chorus almost sounded just like my hubby. I then had to call him and let him know that Jerry set me strait:) |

I read a piece of a transcript of an interview with Jerry where he actually said that he had NEVER written a song while he was in a good mood of any kind. And Jerry was the primary songwriter for AIC, so it kinda makes sense that the band doesn't have any happy songs. |
