Locked On Lyrics
Everything you heard I did and maybe then some ok
Does it make you happy and now is it out of the way?
Everything you heard I done and probably then some ok
Does it really matter of course I took it all the way
What more can I say
Locked on - what's the deal?
Faded rock star, push and needle
You don't know, well that's alright
You do your thing, I'll live my life
Every word is true, baby I won't deny
Don't you push me over, I ain't even finished my ride
Every word you read is true and maybe that is a lie
Strap session closing and I'm a going out of my mind
What more can I say
Locked on - what's the deal?
Falling rock star, push and needle
You don't know, well that's alright
You do your thing, I'll live my life
Locked on - what's the deal?
Faded rock star, push and needle
You don't know, well that's alright
You do your thing, I'll live my life
Every song I wrote I meant what I said at the time
Yeah I spent some time looking death right in the eye
Every song I wrote I capture a fragment of time
Dying a little bit makes you appreciate life
Nothing more to say
Locked on - what's the deal?
Falling rock star, push and needle
You don't know, well that's alright
You do your thing, I'll live my life

Faded rock star, push and needle

i totally agree that this song is about layne. 100% about layne. just listen/read the lyrics, it's SO obvious. about their "falling out" and what jerry may have said about layne and his addiction. it's a sad song in my opinion. the whole things sucks, i wish layne could come back and AiC could rock again.
Layne Staley through and through. basically it's jerry saying what he has to say to layne about his addiction and wanting to move past all of that. it's a shame heroin had to get the better of the greatest singer of all-time in my personal opinion. but the original Alice In Chains tunes will live forever.
Yes, its about Layne to some extent. But more importantly its about Jerry saying he can't be around that anymore.
its simply about him admitting to the drug abuse and just saying that he doesn't care what others think because he's gonna live his life for himself and nobody else
He said on stage that the song is about layne, not himself.
Not every song dealing with drugs by Alice or Jerry is about Layne. This one, however, easily could be. The way that needles are mentioned leads me to that conclusion. Unfortunately, Layne loved to do heroin until it killed him.
RIP Layne
I don't think Layne loved doing heroin - maybe in the beginning when he enjoyed the high, but in the end I think he despised it. I think he was embarrassed by what he became. It's an addiction. When the body doesn't get its fix, the body gets sick. And then the drug is no longer about getting a high - it becomes a medicine to avoid the sickness.

@MMQC @hoppingbunny But the dope sickness from withdrawal doesn't last forever and he knew he could live without Heroin he kicked it many times. He just couldn't live with himself due to depression, self-hatred, anxiety, etc. The drugs were preferable.
