My Song Lyrics
She won't tell me lies
She want to see me smile, yeah
Every time you let it show
I didn't want to know
By the time I had lost my soul
You had to go
She come, in disguise
I want to say goodbye, yeah
Every time I let it show
You didn't want to know
By the time I had lost my soul
You had to go
You had to go
Love's strong, mine gone
Still have the time to sing my song
Love's strong, mine gone
Still have the time to sing my song
Still have the time to sing my song
Still have the time to sing my song
She got her own way
Same as yesterday, yeah
Every time you let it show
I didn't want to know
By the time I had sold my soul
You had to go
You had to go
Love's strong, mine gone
Still have the time to sing my song
Still have the time to sing my song
Love's strong, mine gone
Still have the time to sing my song
Still have the time to sing my song
Still not a crime to sing my song
She want to see me smile, yeah
Every time you let it show
I didn't want to know
By the time I had lost my soul
You had to go
She come, in disguise
I want to say goodbye, yeah
Every time I let it show
You didn't want to know
By the time I had lost my soul
You had to go
You had to go
Love's strong, mine gone
Still have the time to sing my song

Still not a crime to sing my song

I think it's about his relationship wth his old girlfriend he screwed up but he's sorta saying he's still got his music. I know I can relate to that shit.
@Body Hammer I think his "own song" could be a metaphor for that he still has what makes him an individual (not music per se).

Laynes not the only person to have drug problems.
Do people not realise how many of the harrowing drug related AIC lyrics were written by Jerry? They;ve both gone through some serious shit because of it.
Just because its about drugs doesn't mean its about Layne
@fatpom Very few of the AIC lyrics written by Jerry were about drugs actually, just Killer Is Me and maybe Down in a Hole. We Die Young is partially about drugs as well but only about kids selling it, not his addictions. He wrote a lot about drugs in his solo albums though. I don't think this one is about drugs, however, it seems to be more related to self-affirmation

i think this song is about jerrys drug addiction. it speaks about how he wants to get rid of it but he cant help it. he knows that the drug makes him feel good but hes sick of it, hence the lyrics everytime u let it show i dint wanna know. by the time i had lsot my soul u had to go means hes never really satisfied with his high. as soon as he begins to feel it the high wears off. in the video, the woman is actually the drug that has held him captive. she takes him out and burys him, signifying his high. she washes him down after that which means its wearing off. in the end jerry is running away from her, just like layne wanted to get rid of his addiction. this song makes sense to me this way.
I totally agree with Body Hammer that would be my interpretation too
I agree with Body Hammer. I love this song.
This song is great!I love the song, but to me the video is DISTURBING!!! Jerry hanging from a tree in nothing but his underwear, being hosed down!
I bought Boggy Depot just for this song! Love it! Wasn't this a hit single? I remember hearing it on the radio late at night! Took a little more listening to in order to like the whole album. I love it! Great cd to get high to. :~p
This song is much more than likely told from Layne Staley's point of view. The last years of Layne's life he isolated himself and talked to almost no one. In an interview Layne did he said he wasn't friends with any of the members of AIC anymore. I'm guessing the actual lyrics are about how even before layne staley's wife died from drug related problems that layne had "lost his soul" and it just got worse after she died. If you look at the music video it illustrates Staley perfectly.
