This song is basically about an abusive relationship. The abuser (who takes the form of a male, but lets not be too stuck on genders here) is being left by his significant other, he finds some way to keep this person back, and then abuses them. It goes on like this, until the victim finally runs away. A very well written song making the listener feel as though the protagonist is the victim.

You're viewing the song as a single story, when the entire album is it's own story, which this song plays into. Watch the movie, it helps put it in perspective.
