I think this this is about the process of becoming visible after being concealed. The emergence of somebody from something…an unmasking, revealing of sorts. He’s begging Sleep to change. He knows she has the capacity to love him back, but is too attached to who she used to be or too stubborn. He wants her to “emerge”, like a butterfly from a cocoon.
