Heard this song over 20 years ago and it has always stuck with me. I remember reading all the interpretations as a teenager and now as a grown man, I have something to add. It's about Ptsd. That's why it fits with a breakup, or divorce or it could even be about a soldier returning from war. People think that Ptsd is caused by something someone else did to you and that is often the case. But Ptsd can also be caused by something a person did to someone else, that they can't cope with. Seeing the harsh reality of who you are is disorienting and you can feel like a murderer even if you've never killed someone. You may have done violence by word or deed to another, but in the end, you did it to yourself. You feel like a killer and maybe you even thought what you did was right at the time or that you were even justified in doing it. But now you know the truth of the state of your own soul and you are in Hell. It's about coming to terms with the fact that there is no fixing the past and the writer must at some point get out of the prison cell he has made of his life to escape the whirlwind of his thoughts and learn to be human again. The song is a confession.
