I think it could be a previous partner that the writer has a lot of affection for, but the partner has been persuaded by the media to reveal secrets etc. about them and put them in the press.
The extended version, as the poster noted above ('The Feeling You Get When'), is the writers regret of taking them to court or similar and them both feeling hurt.
It also works very well for partners falling out with each other and having regret immediately afterwards...
