Put up your barricades
There's money to be made
Continue your charade
Money to be made

What you're asking for means the world to me
You draw close as you whisper precisely
Precisely

Your safety is assured,
Behind those eggshell walls
Of yours
You're safety is assured,
Behind those eggshell walls
Of yours

Friends and family fly by on wings of faith
Faithlessly I don't recognize a face
Not a single face

Take this sorry soul
Made enough of a mess on my own
On my own

Put up your barricades
There's money to be made

The hidden track on the end is called 'The Feeling You Get When'

    It goes like this:

You sent the sun round the yard Made me feel twice what I was You sent the sun round the yard Made me feel twice what I was

You sent the sun round the yard Made me feel twice what I was You sent the sun round the yard Made me feel twice what I was

You send the sun round the yard You send the sun round the yard You send the sun round the... You send the sun round the...

    If I'm not mistaken, it's:

You sent the sun round the Earth Made me feel twice what I'm worth

I've got it now :L Maybe.

Sort of leavign the things and peopel you love to get where you want to be in life. There's 'money to be made' so they're off to make it, even though it means leaving stuff behind.

Please tell what me if you thikn it's wrong / right.

I thought it went: "Your safety is a show" as in fake.

But I could easily be wrong.

However, the other part is definitely "sun round the Earth"/ "Twice what I'm worth".

I used to think it was "your safety is a show" as well, haha, because like, you're surrounded by "walls" so you feel safe, but they're really thin and give you no protection at all. So yeah, fake protection (which would fit in with album 2, come to think of it ;D)

I think it's about someone who's been so obsessed with making money and being successful that they've left behind all the "little people".

"Put up your barricades, theres money to be made Continue your charades, theres money to be made" Would suggest distancing himself from friends and family and growing cold to them in this quest for success.

"What youre asking for means the world to me" Seems to be him complaining about having to do this, at the start of their "quest" "You draw close as you whisper: 'precisely'" Never been sure what this means, but I suppose it could be the person/voice in your head that's convincing him to do this, in a sort of "do it for them to show how much you care" kind of way.

"Your safety assured behind those egg-shell walls of yours" The eggshell walls could be these lame justifications for their behaviour. I'm sure the friends and family would prefer to have their loved-one back than be wealthy and successful.

"Friends and family glide by on wings of faith / Faithlessly I don't recognise a face" Could be suggesting that despite all this distancing, the friends and family see this as something he really wants, and so they still have faith in him and are supporting him because they care about him. However, it's been so long since he spent any proper time with them it's like they're strangers, and it feels like he's been unfaithful to them all.

"Take this sorry soul / I've made enough of a mess on my own" Could be regrets for his actions, but maybe it's now too late and he can't get that lost bonding time or relationship strength back.

Ahhhh, I wrote an essay, sorry! XD Can you tell I'm procrastinating? :p

    My Interpretation

I thought it was about prostitution.... I mean, there are not a lot of jobs where you have to "put up your barricades"..

Everytime I hear this song I just imagine the meaning of the song to be something like this:

"Put up your barricades, there`s money to be made" To me, this line might be about prostitution and how someone has to really "put up a barricade" in order to deal with this job

"What youre asking for means the world to me You draw close as you whisper: precisely "

Not so sure about this line.... maybe he has to keep a secret or something...? "means the world to me" is mostly used in a very positive way, like a wedding proposal or if someone donates a kidney to you or something^^, but I just can't figure out how to interpret this positivly

"Your safety assured behind those egg-shell walls of yours" Egg-shell walls are not very sturdy, they break easily... so I think this line is meant as a critisicm... the person in question is not safe at all and might act rather stupidly/naiv because she thinks herself to be safe

"Friends and family glide by on wings of faith" I thought this was about religion... ("faith").. maybe the person in question comes from a religious environment? "Glide on" might mean they don't see what is going on and are blindly "gliding on"

"Faithlessly I dont recognise a face Not a single face" Maybe the "speaker" knows something (someone he knows getting in to prostitution to make money???) and does not understand the world anymore and thus doesn't "recognise a face".. or perhaps he is so dissapointed or surprised by the actions of the person in question, that he doesn't recognise her "inner" face anymore ?

"Take this sorry soul Ive made enough of a mess on my own On my own" He doesn't want to be bothered anymore but still is? lol i don't know :-)

Tell me what you think about my point of view!

I think it could be a previous partner that the writer has a lot of affection for, but the partner has been persuaded by the media to reveal secrets etc. about them and put them in the press. The extended version, as the poster noted above ('The Feeling You Get When'), is the writers regret of taking them to court or similar and them both feeling hurt.

It also works very well for partners falling out with each other and having regret immediately afterwards...

No I'm not currently going through these things (both parts) 🙄

    My Interpretation

I like to think it's about giving into the way the world works and working at the job that has no meaning to you and keeps you empty, but you do it because you need the money.

"Put up your barricades, theres money to be made Continue your charades, theres money to be made" -Pretend to be something your not and hide your feelings, toughen up, smile like you mean it, playing their games, you have to make money to live.

"What your asking for means the world to me, you draw closer as you whisper precisly." -Meaning that your freedom and your individuality means everything to you, and society/boss/whatever says thats exactly what they need to take away from you.

"Your saftey is assured behind those eggshelled walls of yours" -Meaning that there is security in the 9 to 5 job and it's less scarier than trying something different or new and not knowing where you will end up.

"Friends and family glide by on wings of faith Faithlessly I don't recognise a face Not a single face" -You see your friends and family nicely tolerating or being happy/exceling at their repetitive, meaningless jobs and you don't understand that at all. You don't recognize anything in them that you recognize in yourself.

"Take this sorry soul I've made enough of a mess on my own On my own" Feeling defeated and giving in, since you can't figure life out and have made a mess of it any how.Just going the path society tells you you need to go. Working that dead-end job for the money...

I'm fairly certain this isn't the real meaning of the song, but this is how I like to think of it because it's true for me. I'm too free-spirited for my own good...

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
