I'd like to believe (my pov and how the song resonates to me) that this is song is about someone longing to leave his hometown because of all the bad memories/bad things that have happened there and therefore have traumatized him. Along the way he is starting to loose hope about leaving and he starts to give up emotionally, not caring about anything anymore/becoming numb. The lines:
"And if you really think you've seen me
I'll have to prove you that you're wrong"
I think show the speakers angst or need to tell the world that whatever this situation he is in has made him is not who he truly is and he is way more than what he's become or the fact that he's making a fake persona of someone he isn't in order to fit in somewhere that he can't (I'm not quite sure abt this but oh well). Also just a personal opinion, 3:20 - 3:52 is literally fucking soul ascending and delivers so much feeling without a single word!! Katatonia sure have their way with music :)
@4everdoomed Thank you for your very insightful view. Without meaning to make light of it in any way, I feel that fitting in is overrated. We were all created to be unique for a reason. I think life would be quite boring if we were all the same or were to try and fit others expectations of us (aside from the laws and so forth, of course). It surely would not bring happiness to do so as it goes against our very being. We are meant to shine our light in whatever capacity is afforded to us. That light may...

That light may not always be bright, but it is always there to be found or reflected back to us. Sometimes it may take a while, or a change in location and/or situation to find it, but it can be. One need just to hang on to hope. Perhaps, this could have been said without words (i.e., not at all), but, for some reason, I felt compelled to do so. I hope you don't mind. I don't mean to surmise that your view has to do with you personally, but if it does (and if not), I wish you a very bright future, indeed. :)
