I'd like to believe (my pov and how the song resonates to me) that this is song is about someone longing to leave his hometown because of all the bad memories/bad things that have happened there and therefore have traumatized him. Along the way he is starting to loose hope about leaving and he starts to give up emotionally, not caring about anything anymore/becoming numb. The lines: "And if you really think you've seen me I'll have to prove you that you're wrong" I think show the speakers angst or need to tell the world that whatever this situation he is in has made him is not who he truly is and he is way more than what he's become or the fact that he's making a fake persona of someone he isn't in order to fit in somewhere that he can't (I'm not quite sure abt this but oh well). Also just a personal opinion, 3:20 - 3:52 is literally fucking soul ascending and delivers so much feeling without a single word!! Katatonia sure have their way with music :) |
