I think this song is a bit sarcastic. When the narrator says "It's only a broken heart", he is more hurt than he wants to admit. I've watched people act this way after relationships/marriages ended - pretending to have a super positive attitude, not letting anyone see them upset. But if you know them well enough, you suspect that they are hiding their sadness.
