Lyric discussion by skaizun

Cover art for Sweet Freedom lyrics by Michael McDonald

I always thought that "sweet freedom" referred to music, itself, as most songwriters have that special moment when they discover that special lyric and/or composition they've been searching for. Also, I've wondered why I rarely hear this at USA sports events, which would really get people up from their seats and into the game, way more than the Stones' "Start me up."

My Interpretation

@skaizun Not to put too fine a point on the above, but, the lyrics support my interpretation: "Shine sweet freedom, Shine your light on me . . . You are the magic: You're right where I wanna be" Change "freedom" to "music", and it makes perfect sense. Double meanings are rife in the music world.
