I don’t know that you need to get to addition to explain this amazing song. Depression, loss, rejection pretty much covers it for me. And I interpret it as a hopeful song. First the music itself is life-affirming and almost triumphant. Yes, life is basic since losing everything, but there’s nowhere to go but up. The fact that he no longer feels the need to “play with his razor blade” signals that. - for me.

Addendum - That’s not to say that addition is not the root cause. I read in Wikipedia that Brock Butler announced a 2013 hiatus, saying he needed “to break bad habits and create new good ones.”

I guess there are a few ways to use (abuse?) razors…
