How does everyone miss this? They're called the bards, and I think it pretty obvious that it was was meant to be about Guts vs Griffith from Berserk. The Black and White hawks.

WARNING! Plenty of spoilers ahead.

Soldiers together, Griffith eventually betraying them all for power and glory - In the most despicable manner possible. Raping a woman who once loved him, and he saved from the very same act once upon a time. Who eventually gave up on him, and got together with Guts, the Black Hawk. All this as he sacrifices the friends that just saved him to monsters, and only Guts survives, losing an arm in his attempt to save the woman in question. She goes completely insane after this(becomes like a child, and loses the ability to speak).

The various decent guys in "The Band of the Hawk" that were labelled as criminals after having saved the country(of which Griffith once was one), are the mistreated angels. And worst of them all is Guts(The Black Hawk), who has lived a long life of abuse, betrayal, and general misery.

@Nyarla "Don't look back tell me Is it where you belong A place in the dark A song without hope" - Clearly speaks of Guts. Where the supernatural side of their world describes him, and his life.

"We're the last descendants In the line of valiant soldiers We're mistreated angels We are the blackbird nation, we're the chosen ones We're the last descendants We're the tribe of unsung glory We are the fallen angels Well the time is right you shall be on my (side)"

Speaks of how their mercenary band were powerful enough to be...

  • Speaks of how their mercenary band were powerful enough to be a nation unto itself. With how wars turned with their favor. And how the were betrayed by the nation they saved.
  • "I don't I don't I don't need anyone Be with or be against me I'm white I am chosen There is not the slightest doubt at all Not at all" -Speaks of how Griffith refused to grow close to anyone. And was willing to sacrifice anyone, or anything for his dream.

Saying they'll wait for an answer if fairly common in the series as well. Sometimes with an emotional backing, like when Casca asks Guts or Griffith.

When various lords/kings says they'll wait for an answer.

When the little crossbow guy(whose name I also forget), asks various ppl for answers. It's just a common theme. Where ppl walks away, and other say they'll wait for an answer.
