I heard this song this morning for the first time in several years and was stuck by the depth and beauty of the lyrics and the powerful way Stevie sings it.
It also made me realize how much I missed the shear mature talent of the singer songwriters of her generation. Talylor swift and Arianna couldn't write a song like this if their lives depended on it.
@todd104811 this toxic comparison of female artists is exactly the type of bullsh*t behavior stevie nicks was against. perhaps if you give a chance to other modern female musicians and actually heard their music, you\'d think differently. and even after if you don\'t, it is purely childish to pit hardworking and successful women against each other. stevie nicks was an inspiration to these women, at least for taylor, so i dont see the need for you to compare. honestly, with all due respect, please grow tf up.

@nishxnjh There was nothing "toxic" about my comparison. Stevie is a genius. When TS or AG write a song remotely close to anything she did they will get the same respect. Stop with the false narrative. You need to grow up and understand that "popular" doesn\'t equal "great". TS writes some catchy tunes. I especially like "Shake it off"! But the majority of her songs are hook inspired drivel. \r\n\r\nI have no animosity towards female musicians at all. I also think that Christine McVey is a fantastic artist as are so many others. My comment was more directed at what...

My comment was more directed at what passes for "genius" in today\'s music. Kanye? Kendrick Lamar? Diddy? No one will remember these men for their musical contribution in 50 years but people will still be listening to Carol King, Aretha, Tina Turner etc. because they were brilliant. \r\n\r\n\r\n
@todd104811 I don't understand those replies below because your comment isn't mean at all. And I do agree with you. Your comment is a clear truth. It's neither offensive nor sexist - you have just written what kind of artists we have today. I hate both Swift and Grande. The first one writes only aggresive songs about her boyfriends and create insipid music, and the second one is a childish whore - no talent only a shaking bum. But the same thing is about boys - just like you've written: Kanye, Diddy - they are disgusting and no one's gonna...

But the same thing is about boys - just like you've written: Kanye, Diddy - they are disgusting and no one's gonna remember them in the future. That's why I don't care for this kind of modern music. I do appreciate guys like Adele, Amy Whinehouse, Amy McDonalds, One Republic, Lady Gaga, Pink or Florence and The Machine because they have big talent, create artistic music, write great lyrics and have well-thought image of themselves (I know Winehouse's dead). And as a girl I hate how the most of modern female singers present themselves in show business now. They really act like whores - they almost perform naked and their video clips remind porn movies (let alone their marginal talent). When as a child I saw Rhianna or Beyonce or whoever like that I couldn't believe that if some girl wants to become music star she has to lose her dignity. That's why I have always listened to old music. Joni Mitchell, Judee Sill, girls from Fleetwood Mac, ABBA, Debbie Harry, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Patti Smith, Kate Bush, Tina Turner, Suzi Quatro, Bjork, Laura Nyro, Nina Haagen - oh dear and fortunately many others like them - they are example of worth women. They are (or were) extremly talented, crazy, charismatic and they have dignity and they treat music like an art not like a marketing product.
