To me what this song is him seeing his sinful self, and maybe it's not him seeing his sinful self, but God showing him his sinful self. Sleeping and sleep walking shows that he still has a sinful nature, but that he can rest in his imperfection, because he's the God who is awakening inside of him is leading him toward the light. He's not brought there by his own consciousness, he's asleep, it is God who brings him there. The light his the presence of God, his love. And in the chorus it's like the words of God are guiding him toward the light, giving further creedance to my interpretation of the song
