I think this song is about a new relationship and getting to know someone.
It reminds me of my most recent almost relationship; in fact CAS was perhaps "our" band. He once sent me this song, and it made so much sense to me as the main word to describe what I fell for him back then as "affection".
The beginning of the end was on the night one of us drank too much and said things they shouldn't have. Still, the affection was there and will probably always be. It's a shame, I was constantly thinking of him and could have maybe fallen for him. Just one more of those relationships you will always wonder "what if?"...
