World without end, is to me the most telling line in this song and to me it sounds like a reference to war. The love and loss that ensues in its trenches. The Hundred Years War comes to mind as does the Black Plague. I think this song is about the strife that war, disease and famine can have on a nation and how it can brutalize the soul of anyone in it's path. Conflict compounded with more conflict gets the world nowhere and that's what the core of this song is driving at. The death and sorrow left in war's wake is gut wrenching. This song imparts that as well. As for 'it's all worth waiting for' I believe that is about heaven, after those victims of war pass on, the idea that they will go to a better place.
