Well, I'll just give my two cents 'cause I really like this song.
I think this is all about the safe distance that someone can keep from a person he/she likes. Sometimes we're scared to push it too far, due to past experiences. Everything is beautiful at the very beginning of a relationship with someone and looks like this person prefers to keep that moment frozen in time, settling for what they have, avoiding everything that they'll become. I want to believe that the ending is about making a step forward over those limits.
