I agree that this song includes aliens and perhaps the occult, but I think reincarnation is also a theme in the song. Familiar faces and sights, reach back remember with all your might. This is an obvious reference to past lives. I think when he says sleep and dream is all he craves, I think that means he wants to escape the cycles of karma. He has to travel across the milky way to be reincarnated somewhere else, somewhere that his master (supreme being of the universe) appoints for him. Nevertheless, he knows that he will someday be reunited with his love and soul mate.
@McThuggin2011 Nice! Though I don't agree with it being about reincarnation - "familiar faces" = those you already know on the other side. "Reach back remember..." trying to remember everyone you knew before you were born here on Earth, and trying to remember who you were then as well. Not reincarnation, but who you/we/they are all on the other side - where we come from. I totally believe in reincarnation, but this reality (here on earth in this life) is the dream/Matrix/whatever and the other side is reality. We're in boot camp here, to learn...

@McThuggin2011 I agree with you, that the lyrics seem to reference reincarnation and reuniting with a soul mate. From what I've read, Hagar did write this about what he perceived to be an alien encounter. But I think it is just as possible that the encounter was with a spirit guide of some sort. And yes, I DO believe such things are possible.
