I think its about wanting to be in a relationship but being afraid to do so because things in the past turned out badly. "Toil toil toil til I get sick" is that she wants to and tries to but but then backs out. (I try reverse but I'm not that quick) So, just go for it! (if you want it bad you gotta steal your own fuel) and don't worry about it.
