This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
Na na na na na na
Ta ah ah ah ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Da da da, da da da
Da da, da da da
Toil toil toil til I get sick
I try reverse, but I'm not that quick
Chained to the ground
No flyin', for you
If you want it bad
You gotta steal your own fuel
Torn
Toiled and troubled
Da da da da da da
Da da da ah ah
Ah-ah
Ah-ah
Da da da da da da da da
Da-ah
Da da da!
Toil toil toil
Till I get sick
I try reverse but I'm
Not that quick
Chained to the ground
No flyin' for you
If you want it bad
You gotta steal your own fuel
Torn
Toiled and troubled
Ta ah ah ah ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Da da da, da da da
Da da, da da da
Toil toil toil til I get sick
I try reverse, but I'm not that quick
Chained to the ground
No flyin', for you
If you want it bad
You gotta steal your own fuel
Torn
Toiled and troubled
Da da da da da da
Da da da ah ah
Ah-ah
Ah-ah
Da da da da da da da da
Da-ah
Da da da!
Toil toil toil
Till I get sick
I try reverse but I'm
Not that quick
Chained to the ground
No flyin' for you
If you want it bad
You gotta steal your own fuel
Torn
Toiled and troubled

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
^ i had never noticed that! i had realized she quickly says "fuck" at the end of a line, but never realized it was because she had messed up the lyric. i love that they keep mistakes like this in the final edit :). they do it in other songs, too.
It doesn't make any sense for it to be "crying". Consider the lyrics before and after that line.
And Kim Deal is a she, not a he.
kim says crying the second time and says 'fuck' really fast cos she messed up.
I think that he says crying instead of flying....
This album is awesome, sums up my mood many times when I'm depressed.
I think its about wanting to be in a relationship but being afraid to do so because things in the past turned out badly. "Toil toil toil til I get sick" is that she wants to and tries to but but then backs out. (I try reverse but I'm not that quick) So, just go for it! (if you want it bad you gotta steal your own fuel) and don't worry about it. Also, just try to sing that song, it's really hard!
@thorneyT From my point of view this is a more literal complaining about working HARD, the physical toll of it.
No ties with sentimental relationships here, but just the toils of her life (constant touring, recording, whatsoever).

Kim left the Pixies when "went from just all fun to work" [1], so it makes sense to me that Kim ended up writing such a song (though not talking about her Pixies time of course!).

I think she's just exhausted from her life style, she wants it bad though, so she must steal the fuel from her body!

[1] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Deal
Huffer: One who huffs, noxious chemical agents to get high by becoming light headed or pass out due to lack of oxygen to the brain. Gasoline, etc. is often used. toil, toil, toil is working or huffing to get high. getting sick is about to pass out. trying reverse is attempting to breath fresh air to not pass out. not being that quick, chained to the ground, no flyin’ for you is being passed out. if you want it bad is craving a high, steal your own fuel is stealing gasoline or other agent sometimes whip-it or other nitrous-oxide containers. common practice among teenagers who can’t get any real drugs.
