Cover art for Drown lyrics by Tyler Joseph

I personally think that this song is about how he must of hurt someone (most likely emotionally) close to him unintentionally ("Here I come, come to you, in the very clothes, that I killed, killed you in, and I now I know I'm alone"). The "killed" meaning he hurt the person, and the "now I know I'm alone" meaning he knows he can't get this person back.

The "I walk to you, rain falls from you, can you wash me? Can you drown me?" meaning that this hurt person is sad ("rain falls from you") and Tyler wants this person to 'wash' and 'drown' him with their sadness because Tyler feels bad for hurting the person. It's like when you accidentally hurt someone emotionally and then you say "I'm so sorry! I'll do anything for you!". I think that's what Tyler's trying to say to this person. That he feels bad for hurting them and that he's willing to take on their pain and misery just to get them back and to get rid of the guilt.

The next paragraph of rapping is talking about how he feels about the situation. Then the paragraph after that that's about how a man's trying to but a key but he can't, I think he's talking about himself. How he thinks he needs to get this person back (the key) in order to continue with his life (the door). But he doesn't exactly know how ("but he can't 'cause he's poor") or maybe because he doesn't have enough time, chances, etc. How losing this person has made him "fall on the floor" and whenever something else bad happens, it can't hurt him because he's already hurt ("he's already on the floor"). The next line just talks about how he's hurt and whatnot.

The nine lives and nine crimes part must talk about how he is trying to figure out what he's done to hurt this person ("he will try nine times to realize nine crimes"). And the "but he has more than nine lives" meaning that even though he has lost this person, his life isn't over. He still has more chances with more people.

Then he talks about how he's showing the person that his guilt and pain from hurting the person has really affected his everyday life and how he feels about himself ("just to show the blood soaked through, through my bones and all I own") and the "is there a way for me to grow" must talk about how he is wondering if there is a way he can grow out of what's happened. If he can grow out of hurting this person and the guilt that comes with it.

And again he asks this person to drown him with their worries as a way Tyler can repay this person for what Tyler has done.

Then in the last rap part, he probably talks about the depression that comes with unintentionally hurting and losing someone important to him. "They say the ocean's blue but it's black right now" talks about how the people around him say that if you look on the good side of things, then life isn't so bad. But to him, life is still "black" anyway. The next part talks about how what he has faith in keeps him going ("I've been told by the sky that the ocean I shall win"), how it keeps him trying to get through his difficulties. But then he says "it's hard me to see where ocean stops, where sky begins" which must mean he can't tell when his emotional pain and stress will end and he can't tell where his faith is actually helping him with this. And that "random chunks of light remind me of what is true" shows that he has some rays of hope that help him realize that he make it without this person, but then he returns to present and depression engulfs him again and his faith seems like nothing without this person he has lost ("but right now the ocean's black, and black the sky is too").

I don't know the official meaning of this song, again, this is just an interpretation. You have your opinion, I have mine.

My Interpretation

@Pooer super duper late but if taken by sleep is what the interpretations of that song is it could literally mean “killed you in” if he felt guilty for either not noticing or ignoring it
