I think the first two verses talk about Christianity; the singer has lived long without the truth ("It's been as nothing"), but at some point he sees it all hold together ("--I can feel it / I believe it"). Also, "I almost / Feel to follow" is interpreted by me to mean submitting to God; he almost feels like following instead of relying on himself.
It's never too late to stay in the truth, until it's too late (when life i over). Someone stronger than him couldn't leave the trurth, so it's probably better than what it seems like.

@snowm Almost though. He doesn't feel to follow. He almost does?
