I think this song is about a person seeing every one they know living a life they couldn't bear to live. They see every one around them Lose there joy and fade away into nothing. Even though this person knows staying were they are will eat them away or make them burn on the inside they also know there isn't a good chance of them being able to servive any were else. I think it's a song about being traped and your only hope is barely hope it's just a slim shot.
