Cover art for Sister Luck lyrics by Black Crowes, The

This is no doubt one of my favorite crowes songs

This song is about making it though a tough time or depression. "Sister luck is screaming out some body else's name" is in reference to good things only happen for others not you.

"Worried sick my eyes are hurting" This means he stays up thinking about his problems and his eyes hurt from being tired."To rest my head I'd take a life" means he would do about anything to have his burdens lifted from him. The burdens in his life have consumed his thoughts and he can't sleep.

"Outside the girls are dancing" means the people around you seem to be happy in spite of your condition."Feeling second fiddle to a dead man Up to my neck with your disregard" . I think this would mean that you're sad and or depressed and others don't seem to acknowledge ,understand,or maybe don't care at all about what you're dealing with(whatever that my be).

"Like a beat dog that's walking on the Broadway. No one wants to hear you when you're down".This to me means that overall people will treat you badly or not listen to you when you're powerless and beat down.Often times people will turn their heads away from a beat dog walking down the Broadway because it's not their pain, problem,or maybe they really don't care." "A flip of a coin Might make a head turn No surprise, who sleeps".This means that people might not really care enough to lose sleep over your problems because your pain is far removed from their reality. "A flip of a coin might make their head turn" can also mean that most people see more value in your money or what you can do for them then they see in you as a person. (when I lived in my car and was homeless I really found out quickly who my friends were and the people that was only fair weather acquaintances).

"Held my hand over a candle Flame burnin' but I never weep" This means that no matter how bad things hurt weeping in self pity won't solve the problem. more or less the burnin is a part of life that all of us need to deal with and grow tolerant to accepting as being human.Taking the pain without pulling back from the flame is like dealing with problems with out giving up.

well written song that has the ability to relate to the listeners pains
