After listening to this song a few times, I think or this sounds almost sounds like an admission of being unfaithful. Like when you cheat on someone, that guilt you carry around with you, and then when that person finds out.
But I'm puzzled by the "put faith in my stomach" line, because I think he means that the person should trust his gut in these situations. So it could be about an argument where there is accusations of cheating or being unfaithful or that it actually happened
@kboyle It's confusing for me too. Especially when he talks about his lover. Lover as in the girl he's seeing behind his girlfriends back or the girlfriend herself. He also could be saying that he's loved his girlfriend (who he calls lover) for a long time so how could he cheat on her?

@weeclown5 I agree I think he goes back and forth between the two women or whomever. I also agree with the last comment; it's either that or if you've ever been in a situation here your significant other admits to cheating on your but says that he/she realizes that YOU'RE the one he wants to be with.

This is probably a shot in the dark but since "Don't" and this song are on the same album that it's about the same girl in "Don't". In respects to how he felt after situation maybe?

"See the...
"See the flames in my eyes" - Anger/jealousy.
Kind of like, considering how long we've been together/known each other and our feelings, how could you do this? And reacting to finding out?
