I'm probably going out on a limb here, but the song doesn't necessarily strike me as one the artist wrote about himself. To me, there's a sort of story that progresses through the verses.
It starts with the person moving out or being kicked out of their house, "folding my clothes, and I feel useless," can infer packing
It then moves on to the person being homeless for a short period of time, "out in the cold," The next verse shows the person finding employment, however the wages of this job are too low.
I think the bridge represents some kind of change in the person's life, a lot of chaos happening
Then the last verse is very clearly about sex. The progression of the song thus far leads me to theorize that the subject of the song has to resort to prostitution by the end of the song in order to make ends meet.
