Wow, compelling song from the beginning; then an interesting surprise in the last verse when we learn the song's about MLK -- now I really find myself thinking about the meaning behind the interesting imagery.
This is a nice lyric about someone who's been gone so long but so relevant and impactful 40+ years later:
You've been a long time gone, good to see you my old friend
But why does he say:
I would sleep if you could drive, I just can't keep my mind alive
with shaking hands I rub my eyes, free of all my alibis
Gotta say -- I really like listening to the Turnpike Troubadours.
@cheeeseburger Great imagery, great lyrics. Love the voice. Not sure how it all connects to MLK, but it's a great tune nonetheless. I saw them play at a private party in Seattle several years ago. Outstanding show.
