Rich Folks Hoax Lyrics

I get the "core" message of this fantastic song, which is:

"So don't tell me about your success Nor your recipes for my happiness Smoke in bed I never could digest Those illusions you claim to have going"

The idea of following the rich people's advice on how to be successful and happy like them is a liberal hoax, an illusion.

"The poor create the rich hoax And only late breast-fed fools believe it" The rich did not create their own happiness and can take no credit for it or give any advice what so ever, becaus the poor created their wealth and happiness by their work or, and/or by getting a cold hand from society (tax cuts for the rich, privatisations and downsizing of the public sector). The poor pay the price of misery for the propriety of the rich. The American dream is but a dream. How can anyone NOT see that it's an illusion that if you work hard enough, follow the advice, you'll be like them?

"The sun is shining, as it's always done Coffin dust is the fate of everyone" We're all just human beings, and no material or symbolic wealth can change that when we die. The moon hangs in a purple sky, the sun shines like it's always done – these elements give a feeling of eternity, the things that we're equal under. It's our soeciety that makes us unequal.

Some parts are a bit unclear and more difficult to interpret:

"Rich folks have the same jokes And they park in basic places" Could this mean: Rich folks may live fancy lives and have fancy cars, but they still have to park their cars like everyone else? At the end of the day it's just a transportation, and we're all humans, it's whent he rich have to park their cars and do other basic things that this fact is exposed?

The jokes could mean the same thing; the rich joke just like everyone else once in a while.

But a more interesting interpretation would be that they [the rich] "have jokes" that they spread to "young folks" (every new generation of all classes, races etc.) who "share the same jokes", created by the rich, i.e. the illussions, the big hoax. The young come as "new fresh" humans to the world, apparently with freedom of choice and responsible for their own success. But the world they're in, and the places where they were born and where they live are not like a blank paper full of free opportunities for the individual. They come to a pre-fabricated world order and a class society, and they meet each other in "older places" affected by what's pre-fabricated.

Other interpretations? Anyone?

My Interpretation

And of course that loads of money does not really make anyone genuinely happy. Happiness comes from other more substantial things in life!

@androsg I really like your meaning. One comment For "Rich folks have the same jokes And they park in basic places" I think it may mean rich folks live in the same routine as poor folks, so the share same jokes, park in same basic places. The only way to live not in routine is always changing yourself. To know more about how to achieve happiness I suggest to read about Buddhism and Rastafarian religion. The idea of it, happiness is the state of total harmony with yourself, society, nature and universe. Most people live in borders and when person becomes rich it does not mean always person...
