In regards to the title "nova baby", I think that there is a possibility that it could be a reference to actual novae. Novae are dwarf stars that leach hydrogen and shit off of a companion star, resulting in an explosion and brightening of the dwarf star. This could be a metaphor translating to the girl the song is about leaching fame, money, acknowledgement, or whatever it is from Dan. And by dollar machine he means she's cashing in on this so most likely it's money and material goods. I could be totally off, but I just thought I'd share anyways. Essentially, she's thrown away all her dreams so she could live off of Dan and have the luxuries associated with a successful musician, deciding that the money is worth it whether or not she felt anything substantial for him, and she became exactly what she said she never would. So yeah sounds like a bitch. Tell me what you think, I've been dying to discuss this.
Saw Nova as a reference to Novacaine - which numbs pain and causes feelings of euphoria.

I see the song as someone who basically abuses themselves (drugs/alcohol), hanging round with the wrong crowd who are really her enemies whilst ignoring the fact that someone has been drawn into her life who loves her but he isn't appreciated (probably because he's too caring to register with her).
