I think that this song is about a woman who is sleeping with a married man, or a man who's already in a relationship.

The third line shows that it's just physical between them "I wish I was in love but I don't wanna cause any pain" and that she knows it will cause them both (not to mention his missus) pain.
"What if I never even see you cause we're both on a stage" - I think this line is about them in their every day lives, away from the affair. 'On a stage' referring to how they have to 'act' around each other in public.
