Waiting Game Lyrics
the way you made me feel all sexy but it's causing me shame
I wanna lean on your shoulder
I wish I was in love but I don't wanna cause any pain
And if I'm feeling like I'm evil we got nothin' to gain
Don't tell me listen to your song because it isn't the same
I don't wanna say that love is a waiting game
What if the way we started made it something cursed from the start
What if it only gets colder
Would you still wrap me up and tell me that you think this was smart
Cause lately I've been scared of even thinkin' bout where we are
Don't tell me listen to your song because it isn't the same
I don't wanna say that love is a waiting game
Don't tell me listen to your song because it isn't the same
I don't wanna say that love is a waiting game

I think that this song is about a woman who is sleeping with a married man, or a man who's already in a relationship. "The way you make me feel all sexy but it's causing me shame" - she wants him but is ashamed of it, because what they're doing is wrong. The third line shows that it's just physical between them "I wish I was in love but I don't wanna cause any pain" and that she knows it will cause them both (not to mention his missus) pain. "What if I never even see you cause we're both on a stage" - I think this line is about them in their every day lives, away from the affair. 'On a stage' referring to how they have to 'act' around each other in public. "I don't wanna say your love is a waiting game" - their 'love' is a waiting game because she's waiting for him to leave his wife/girlfriend. "What if the way we started made it something cursed from the start" - This line really reinforces my interpretation, the relationship had a bad start (the cheating) and she's worried it can only go downhill from there. I think the rest of the song pretty much sums up the points I've made above, maybe with slightly different variations.
I do agree with you but it may be a different situation, that she is in relationship, and she met him, start feel something more to him, and she is confused, he also feel something to her and she is aware of that, they don't have to sleep with each other, but there is some feeling between them, "I don't wanna say your love is a waiting game" telling him that his love is a waiting game that he can lose

I think this song is about not wanting to be in a long distance relationship.
"I'm thinking it over The way you make me feel all sexy but it's causing me shame I wanna lean on your shoulder I wish I was in love but I don't wanna cause any pain And if I'm feeling like I'm evil, we've got nothing to gain"
She's thinking about this relationship. He always is making her feel good about herself yet she's not giving anything in return and its causing her shame. She wants to be able to be with him and lean on him. She wants to be in love with him but she's afraid that this type of relationship will only cause pain. And by her feeling this way there's no happiness for them both and she feels like this makes her the bad guy.
"What if I never even see you cause we're both on a stage Don't tell me listen to your song because it isn't the same I don't wanna say your love is a waiting game"
She feels like they both are just acting out a false hope of a relationship, one where they cant see each other because of distance. She doesn't want to hear the same "song" and dance about how it'll be ok and how it will work because she feels it isn't the same. At the same time she doesn't want to feel like being in love with him would just be a game of waiting until they can be together physically.
"Baby I'm thinking it over What if the way we started made it something cursed from the start What if it only gets colder Would you still wrap me up and tell me that you think this was smart Cause lately I've been scared of even thinking 'bout where we are"
She's thinking about how since they started growing feelings for each other without having met face to face that the relationship was doomed in the first place. She feels "cold" meaning theres no one there to really be with her to hold her. She goes on to say would you still "wrap me up" meaning comfort her and tell her that its still a good idea. She finishes saying she afraid to think about "where" meaning locations and how its will affect their (we are) relationships development into much more.
@AmiIchiban I agree with you :)

Huh. I interpreted the "What if I never even see you 'cause we're both on a stage" very literally. Like, the singer is involved with another performer, who is on tour all the time.
However, I'm enjoying the more metaphorical interpretations as well. It could be a long-distance relationship with another artist, or it could be that she feels they are both performing, rather than being their authentic selves.
In any case, it is a great song and my current ear worm of choice!

I like the official video. It shows a woman full of fear, in doubt perhaps, and the metaphor of light (everything about her) and how it affects the man who is not put off by it, who is confident, and who is approaching her. Until the ray of light is crossed and her waiting game has ended, she is reached and she is taken care of. Lyrics are her thoughts attacking her constantly and repeatedly
